French Open Day 2 Betting Analysis & Free Tennis Picks

Dominic Thiem (4) vs. Tommy Paul (WC)

Monday, May 27, Paris

Free Tennis Pick: Over

Recommended Sportsbook: Pinnacle

Former junior world No.3 Tommy Paul won the French Open boys’ singles title in 2015. Four years later, Paul will make his first main draw appearance in Paris. The 22-year-old earned a wild card into the second Grand Slam of the season by winning the USTA’s Roland Garros Wild Card Challenge. Paul won 11 of his last 12 clay-court matches on the Challenger Tour and is hoping to extend his run of good form at the French Open.

The American wild card will open his French Open campaign on Monday against last year’s runner-up Dominic Thiem at the Court Suzanne-Lenglen. In a recent interview, Thiem said that winning the French Open is his lifetime dream and the world No.4 is one of the main contenders to lift the trophy. The Austrian won 16 of his last 19 matches on this event, losing only to Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

The sportsbooks don’t have any doubts regarding the winner of this match with Thiem as the heavy favorite at -3333 with Intertops. The spread line is currently at -9.5 for the Austrian while the over/under is at 27 games. It’s hard to imagine Thiem losing this match but Paul has quality to make this a closer contest than the odds suggest. The over seems to be the most interesting line for this match since Thiem is not the most consistent player on tour. As we mentioned before, Thiem won 16 of his last 19 matches in Roland Garros. Nevertheless, only 4 of those 16 wins ended with less than 27 games. On the other hand, Paul is a very talented player and always enjoys playing in Paris. With this in mind, our suggestion is for you to add the Over 27 to your betting picks at -115 with Pinnacle as the best play for this contest.
