This is the granddaddy of the three championship matches at UFC 205 and Conor McGregor will be wearing the UFC Lightweight strap around his waist when it’s over. Eddie Alvarez has no quit in him and can wear out his opponents on adrenaline alone. Devastating power, unpredictable movement and the ability to render anyone in the division unconscious is why the UFC odds makers have installed the featherweight king a favorite over the reigning lightweight champ.

Conor McGregor vs. (C) Eddie Alvarez

Lightweight (155 pounds)

Eddie Alvarez (28-4, 15 KO's, 7 Subs) is the working man's champion. His blue collar, gritty performances have endeared him to the MMA community for over a dozen years. But he is not a phenom like Conor McGregor (20-3, 17 KO's, 1 Sub). Alvarez won a split decision over an aging Gilbert Melendez, followed by another split decision over former champ Anthony Pettis and won the title from an underwhelming Rafael dos Anjos. The Pettis victory was his most impressive but he will have to be even better to beat Conor McGregor.

McGregor's loss to Nate Diaz at 170 pounds stole some of the thunder from his reputation as a walking, talking, steamrolling machine. But the Notorious came back and avenged the defeat at the same weight and one that is simply too big for a natural featherweight. This fight will be at 155 and against an opponent who will not bring the same power as Diaz at 170 pounds. I say McGregor will knock out Alvarez is in the third round but if the fight goes longer, it could give the reigning lightweight champ a big advantage. Nevertheless, we will stick with McGregor at -145 at Pinnacle for our betting picks.
