Join us and find out our two top betting selections for WTA French Open Day 1. We'll provide a detailed analysis, explaining why you should grab these two valuable tennis picks.

Danka Kovinic vs Petra Kvitova (10)
Clay is clearly Petra Kvitova’s worst surface yet, the Czech has an 18 – 7 record on this event with just one loss throughout her career on the opening match in 2010. Petra suffered a disappointing first round loss in Rome against Madison Keys; however, the Czech was far from motivated for that event after struggling with a minor physical issue before playing that competition. Petra is always a fearful player due to her tremendous firepower and she’s looking for another good run after reaching the 4th round last year.

On the other hand, Danka Kovinic loves to compete on clay where she has more time to prepare her solid groundstrokes. This is just Danka’s second career season as a top 100 player, with her highest career ranking achieved earlier this year in February when she was ranked as world no.46. Kovinic is a solid baseline player but when looking at her career ranking against top 50 players, she only won 3 of the 20 matches she played.

This is the second career meeting between these two players, with Kvitova emerging victorious earlier this year in Indian Wells by 6 – 3 4 – 6 7 – 6.

Even though Kovinic’s tremendous resistance on their previous encounter, Kvitova should get the job done easier this time. Petra is a different player on Grand Slams and she knows that with Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka on the other half of the draw, this is a huge opportunity for her. With this in mind, our suggestion for this match is for you to take advantage of Petra’s tennis odds by placing a bet on her set handicap.

Karolina Pliskova (17) vs Shelby Rogers
Despite being American, Shelby Rogers plays at very good level on clay and if we look at her two previous career finals on WTA, both were achieved on this surface – Bad Gastein 2014 and Rio de Janeiro 2016. One of the reasons for Rogers’ success on clay is the baseline movement, she’s far from a light player and sliding on clay mitigate her weaker baseline movement. This is Shelby’s fourth career appearance at the French Open, with her best result achieved in 2013 when she reached the 2nd round.

Karolina Pliskova reaches this event after two poor performances in Madrid and Rome, where she lost in the 2nd round against Christina McHale and in the 1st round against Darya Kastakina, respectively. Clay is by far Pliskova’s worst surface with a 54.07% career winning record on this surface while her overall career record is 61.94%. Karolina can’t get as many free points on serve as she does on other surfaces and that’s the main reason for her smaller success on clay tournaments.

These two players faced earlier this year in Indian Wells, with Pliskova emerging victorious by 6 – 2 6 – 4.

Karolina is once again the main favorite but this is far from a good tournament for the Czech. Pliskova has a poor 2 – 4 career record on Roland Garros main draw and this should be a closer match than the odds suggest. Rogers can produce a very high level of tennis and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the American winning a set here. However, due to the quality of both players serve our advice is for you to add the Over to your tennis picks as the best play for this match.
