Chris Wondolowski and the San José Earthquakes have never won in Portland and have been outscored 8-1 their L4 trips up the Pacific coast, so backing the Timbers is one of the six select picks we have for your consideration. Let’s look at that fixture as well as others for some winning soccer picks.

Portland Timbers vs San Jose Earthquakes

Providence Park · Friday, June 2 · 11 pm ET

MLS Week 14 kicks off from the Pacific Northwest with this Western Conference fixture between the 5th-place Timbers (5-3-5, 22 GF-21 GA) and the 4th-place Earthquakes (5-2-5, 16 GF-18 GA). This has been a Home-dominated series of late, and a look at the L5 meetings reveals (SJ 3-0 PORT, PORT 1-0 SJ, PORT 3-1 SJ, SJ 2-1 PORT, SJ 0-0 PORT) the home club is 4-1-0 (W-D-L) with 3 'Overs' in the L4 meetings. A deeper handicapping dive on shows us Portland has beaten the Earthquakes four straight time in Portland, outscoring Chris Wondolowski and San José 8-1 and also that the Timbers are also unbeaten lifetime in Oregon in MLS play (6-3-0, 16 GF-7 GA). So there’s half your handicap.

With the Quakes (WWLDWL) 2-1-4 on the road (4 GF-9 GA) in low-scoring matches (1.86 gpg) and Diego Valeri (6 goals), Darlington Nagbe (2 goals), Fanendo Adi (6 goals) and the Timbers (WDLDLL) 3-2-1 (13 GF-7 GA) at Home, backing the hosts is the logical pick in a spot where goals could be scarce with Jahmir Hyka (3 goals) and the Californian visitors averaging just 0.57 gpg on the Road and having scored just one time in their L4 trips up the coast.

New York City FC vs Philadelphia Union

Yankee Stadium · Saturday, June 3 · 1 pm ET

The UEFA Champions League Final between Juventus and defending holders Real Madrid will steal most of the soccer thunder on Saturday, but MLS has a couple of great games on tap including this Eastern Conference affair between David Villa (8 goals), Jack Harrison (6 goals) and host NYCFC (6-3-5, 25 GF-18 GA) and CJ Sapong (8 goals) and the upstart Union (4-4-5, 19 GF-16 GA). With Philadelphia (DWWWWLL) having L2 straight after W4 in a row (franchise-high) and gaining some needed confidence, expect a game effort from the visitors but much like the Earthquakes above, the Union (1-2-3, 6 GF-5 GA) have played low-scoring matches on the Road (1.83 gpg) but the tight confines of the MLB-built Yankee Stadium in the South Bronx should lead to more goals than normal in an MLS game, as was evident in Wednesday’s 2-2 Draw with New England here at The House That (Babe) Ruth Built.

There have been at least 3 goals scored in 7 of the L8 NYCFC games (4, 4, 3, 4, 2, 4, 5, 3), so backing the Over (at 2½ or 3) is a no-brainer heading in. A look at the L5 meetings in this series (PHI 0-2 NYCFC, NYCFC 3-2 PHI, PHI 2-0 NYCFC, PHI 1-2 NYCFC, NYCFC 1-1 PHI) shows NYCFC (10/1 to win MLS Cup, Intertops) to be 3-1-1 (8 GF-6 GA) with 5 goals scored the last meeting in the Bronx last June. Expect the Union (40/1 to win MLS Cup, Intertops) to get at least one here and Rodney Wallace (4 goals) and NYCFC to tally at least twice. NYCFC and former Juventus maestro Andrea Pirlo (Knee) is still Questionable.

Seattle Sounders vs Houston Dynamo

CenturyLink Field · Sunday, June 4, 2017 · 10 pm ET

Clint Dempsey (4 goals), Jordan Morris (2 goals) and the defending MLS champion Sounders (4-4-6, 17 GF-22 GA) play host to Erick Torres (10 goals), Alberth Ellis (5 goals) and the Dynamo (7-2-5, 27 GF-21 GA) in a big Western Conference showdown between 1st-place Houston and surprisingly 8th-place Seattle. With the hosts really needing the win and the visitors traveling two Time Zones east to west from CT to PT, this appears to be a nice spot to back Nicolás Lodeiro (3 goals) and Seattle even those these two seem as close as they have been in some time. A look at the L5 meetings reveals four Draws and four 'Unders' with three straight 1-1 games in Houston that dirty old bastard Nostradamus didn’t even foretell.

Here, expecting GK Stefan Frei and Seattle (3-2-1, 8 GF-5 GA) to find a way to get the victory seems harder than in The Past, and backing it in the Draw No Bet marketplace seems too pricey (Sounders Draw No Bet -250)? But seeing the perceived high-flying Dynamo’s Road Record (0-1-5, 3 GF-14 GA) and -11 Goal Differential is enough to make even The Grinch’s cold, little heart grow three sizes. The 'Under' looks like the Totals pick knowing the last time these two played in the Emerald City (Oct. 12, 2016), nobody scored at all (0-0). Zilch. Nada. As many goals as you and me and our pets combined. Zippo. Nil to nil.
