Chelsea FC
Chelsea (3-3-5 on Road, 13 GF-15 GA) is coming off a nice 1-0 win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Matchday 23 and the club seems calmer under interim Manager Guus Hiddink, maybe because the pressure of trying to finish in the Top 4 and earn a UEFA Champions League berth is all but gone, although worrying about Relegation (200/1, Coral), sitting just 7 points above 18th place and the Relegation Zone (21 points) may still be a good idea for this West London club which still had a -2 GD (32-34) heading into February. When was the last time the Blues had to wallow so low in the Premier League table, had a negative Goal Differential and had the word ‘Relegation’ bandied about with their name? Chelsea is playing better, but not consistently for 90 minutes, and, as the Winter Transfer Window was coming to a close, Brazilian Alexandre Pato (Corinthians) was coming in on a 6-month Loan, AMF Ramires was reportedly on his way out of Stamford Bridge to China (Jiangsu Suning) while a reported rumor said Blues owner Roman Abramovich would be looking for “at least”£80 million for star Eden Hazard, an AMF being said to be sought after by Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. So, this team could be breaking up some, but no matter who is or isn’t on the Blues Roster, beating Watford—which tied Chelsea 2-2 at SW6 five games ago—but still is mentally in a better head-space with The Special One gone and the losing every other week over, for the time being at least. The Blues will likely have a Starting 11 with Thibaut Courtois as GK, captain John Terry, Kurt Zouma, Branislav Ivanovic and Cesar Azpilicueta starting Defenders, Nemanja Matic and John Obi-Mikel in the Central Midfield and Cesc Fàbregas, Willian, Oscar or Hazard in the Attacking Midfield with Diego Costa as Striker in their usual 4-2-3-1 tactical formation. Chelsea (300/1 to win EPL, Ladbrokes) may be a team in transition, but this was a club other EPL clubs (unknowingly) wanted to play from August to December and not from January to May.

Watford FC
Watford FC (5-2-5 at Home, 13 GF-11 GA) snapped a 4-match losing streak in its last outing, topping Newcastle United, 2-1 as Odion Ighalo and Craig Cathcart scored for the Hornets in the win here at Home at Vicarage Road. In that match, Watford Manager Quique Sánchez Flores had a Starting XI of GK Heurelho Gomes, with Cathcart, Miguel Britos, Juan Paredes and Chelsea-loanee Nathan Aké as his back four Defenders, José Jurado, Valon Behrami, Ben Watson, Etienne Capoue and in the Midfield  Ighalo (14 goals) and Troy Deeney (6 goals) at Striker. In 10th place with 32 points, Watford (5,000/1 to win EPL, SkyBet) will more than likely be playing top flight football in England next season and Manager Flores, GK Gomes and the club’s commitment to Defense and players like Ighalo, Deeney and Jurado will all likely be a huge part of the reason why. Hornets games are averaging 2.30 gpg overall while Home game here at Vicarage Road are averaging just 2.00 gpg (24 goals in 12 games) gpg this season.

Series Trends, Current Form and Best Betting Approaches
These two clubs played against each other in EPL play for the first time in 9 years on Matchday 18 in West London where Watford earned a points in a 2-2 Draw in Hiddink’s first game overseeing Chelsea this second stint. The then 15th-place Blues led 1-0 before Deeney and Ighalo scored giving Watford a 2-1 lead before Costa notched his second goal of the game to tie it at, 2-2. Oscar missed a PK which would have given Chelsea the victory. Lifetime, Chelsea is an almost dead-even 5-3-5 (21 GF-20 GA) against the Hornets in Premier League play (2-3-2 Home, 12 GF-12 GA) but the Blues are 11-5-6 (47 GF-28 GA) overall in all competitions against Watford and are unbeaten in the L4 EPL mattings (3-1-0), outscoring the Hornets, 9-3. Watford has allowed just 1 goal to Chelsea in their L3 trips to Vicarage Road, which will no doubt be loud and raucous and foaming at the mouth for a win here against mighty Chelsea.

But expect Chelsea—which has an FA Cup date with MK Dons on Sunday at Stadium mk in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire (Chelsea -300, MK Dons +400, Draw +800, bet365; BBC One (UK), 16:00)—to find a way to win this one through the creative play of Costa, Hazard, Willian and Fabregas, and maybe someone new. There are new bodies in London trying to sign contracts as you read. It may be a good idea to see what Hiddink’s plan is for this match after all the dust clears when the Transfer Window closes, but after drawing in that first match when it should have won and having more scorers and in a better headspace, Chelsea should find a way to get the win here, even if Ighalo or Deeney score. ‘Chelsea 2-1’ is currently priced at +900 at 888sport in the Correct Score props marketplace. The Blues are 7th in the current Form Table (DDWDDW) while Watford is 18th (DLLLLLW) in the Form Table with the last point earned before its win over Toon was in that aforementioned Matchday 18 Draw with the Blues in West London.
