How Group D Shapes Up
Juventus lead group D with a 2-1-0 mark and 7 points, but Manchester City trail a point behind with a 2-0-1 mark. Sevilla are sat in third place with a 1-0-2 mark and 3 points while Borussia M’gladbach are fourth with a 0-1-2 mark and a point.

Borussia M’gladbach Massive Home Underdogs
If the soccer odds were any indication, Borussia M’gladbach have a sliver of a chance to derail Juventus on match day 4 from securing their passage into the knockouts of Europe’s top flight competition. The Bundesliga outfit is struggling something huge on the big stage, coming away with just a measly point through the first half of the group stage. That said, they managed to secure that point at the expense of Juventus in Turin, when the pair collided on match day 3. Two weeks on, they renew hostilities in Mönchengladbach, Germany, where the hosts could potentially fancy their chances despite the hefty +230 soccer odds for the home win at bet365.

Borussia M’gladbach got off to a rather abysmal start on the season in all competitions. They opened the Bundesliga with five straight losses that forced them into the league’s cellar and saw the departure of coach Lucien Favre. Enter Andre Schurle and instantly they manage to turn things around spectacularly behind a six-game winning streak and climbing into fifth place as a result. A 4-2 win over Augsburg at home kicked off this positive run and they went on to beat Stuttgart 3-1 (away), Wolfsburg 2-0 (home), Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 (away), Schalke 04 3-1 (home) and, most recently, Hertha BSC 4-1 (away).

That’s a ride of convincing form which clearly they took to Turin, where they forced a scoreless draw on Juventus. They may be the underdogs in this reverse fixture, but soccer bettors shouldn’t underestimate them when they have home advantage this time around.

Juventus Solid Faves
Juventus enter this game as the firm favorites at +138 to win outright in Mönchengladbach on Tuesday, but we’re not so sure they deserve to be the road favorites in this game for several reasons, one of which is their rather shaky form this season in general.

Four-time defending champions Juventus are enjoying a rough start to their domestic campaign. They are wholly off pace and colour, sat in tenth place in Serie A with a 4-3-4 record and 15 points, nine points adrift of league-leading Fiorentina, which makes mounting a serious title challenge quite the tough ask.

Recent form is nothing to write home about either with a 3-1-2 mark in their last six domestic games. Looking at just road form, the prognosis is bleaker with a 0-1-2 mark that includes losses to Napoli and Sassuolo and a draw to Internazionale.

The only bright spot on this shockingly subpar season appears to be their Champions League bid, which boasts an undefeated run through three rounds. After opening with a 2-1 win over Man City at the Etihad, Juventus went on to defeat Sevilla 2-0 at home. The scoreless draw with Borussia M’gladbach on match day 3 though was a missed opportunity the Italian side will want to rectify on match day 4.

Soccer Betting Verdict
The win over Man City on match day 1 extended Juventus’ positive run of form on the road in European competition to five straight undefeated games (three wins and a draw), dating back to October 2014 when they lost to Olimpiakos Piraeus in group play. Still, this season, Juventus are but a shadow of their former 2014-2015 selves. A side that won a fourth straight Serie A title and finished runners-up in Champions League. That fact alone, together with the scoreless draw in Turin, must give the Bundesliga side some measure of optimism in this game, if not to win outright then to force yet another draw.

The Germans might be playing for a third place finish right now and a chance to continue their European campaign in Europa League, but they aren’t out of the running entirely just yet. They’ve been a much improved side since Andre Schurle took over the reins from Lucien Favre back in September and they’ve got just as much at stake here as the Italians do. As such, we’re backing the upset on our soccer picks. Don’t be surprised if this game does go against the grain.
