Rafael Nadal (4) vs Sam Groth
Sam Groth will play the main draw of the French Open for the second time on his career, after losing on the first round last year against Pablo Cuevas. The last months haven’t been easy for Groth, with a blocked nerve on Sam’s neck causing some pain to the Australian. Groth’s game is all about his serve yet, with this kind of injury is very hard for him to serve at his best level. The Australian reach this event after two consecutive retirements in two challengers event and this will be his first match on clay since the his loss against Cuevas last season.

Rafael Nadal is looking for his 10th career title on this event after a disappointing loss last year in the quarterfinals against Novak Djokovic. The Spaniard loves to compete on this event, especially the Philippe-Chatrier Court where Nadal is almost unbeatable. Rafael made a good preparation for this event and even though his recent loss in Rome against Djokovic, he was very close from defeating the Serbian on that match.

These two players will face each other for the first time on their careers and this should be a one-way street match. Not only is Groth playing this match with physical problems but he’s also competing on his worst surface against the player known as “king of clay”. Nadal knows very well how to defeat big servers with a tremendous career record against this kind of players and for that reason, we believe that the Spaniard should get the job done in three easy sets. With this in mind, our suggestion for this contest is for you to add Nadal’s spread to your tennis picks as the best play for this contest.

Andreas Seppi vs Ernest Gulbis
After missing six weeks of competition due to a hip injury, Andreas Seppi is trying to return to his best level. The Italian returned to competition in Rome where he reached the 2nd round and before this event he was also in Nice, losing only in the quarterfinals against Dominic Thiem. Seppi can adjust very well to any surface with a solid baseline game and the forehand as his favorite groundstroke. Andreas achieved his best career result in Paris in 2012 when he reached the 4th round – losing only on a five sets battle against Novak Djokovic.

It has been a disappointing year for Ernest Gulbis so far, winning only 4 of the 14 matches he played. Despite the poor record in 2016, Gulbis raised his level in recent weeks with good performances in Rome and Geneva. This is a special place for Gulbis, with the Latvian reaching the semifinals in 2014 and also the quarterfinals 2008, losing in both years for Novak Djokovic. Ernest

This will be the 7th career meeting between these two players, with Gulbis leading on h2h by 5 – 1. Seppi won their first encounter back in 2008 but since then, it was Gulbis who emerged victorious in all the following five matches.

Looking at their previous six meetings, five of them went to distance – including a five sets marathon in the Davis Cup 2008. With both trying to find their best tennis, is unlikely to see any of them winning this in three easy sets. Having said that, our recommendation for this match is for you to place a bet on the Over tennis odds in a match that might only be decided on a 5th set.
