The highly anticipated Manchester derby features on the Premier League betting menu this weekend, marking match day 31. Find out how the soccer odds are taking shape.

Manchester City
Manchester City are through for the first time to the Champions League quarterfinals following a 3-1 win on aggregate over Dynamo Kiev in the R16, but the momentous accomplishment comes at a huge cost for Manuel Pellegrini’s side with mounting injury concerns at the most inopportune moment of the season.

There are those that would argue if Pelligrini’s main objective over the last fortnight was getting Man City over the R16 hump in Champions League for the first time in club history, by accomplishing the feat he deserves credit for it, surely. That is all well and true, but if it all backfires at the expense of their season altogether then that accomplishment will be rendered meaningless.

Man City have had no joy of late in domestic action. They fell behind the top tandem of Leicester City and Tottenham in the Premier League table following back-to-back losses at home to the pair, crashed out of FA Cup behind a massive 5-1 loss to Chelsea, lost badly to Liverpool just days after defeating the Reds in the Capital One Cup final, and succumbed to a scoreless draw at Norwich at the weekend. Interspersed between those accounts is the lone bright spot of their Premier League campaign, a 4-0 win over Aston Villa that no self-respecting soccer fan is going to be fawning over when Villa are already resigned to relegation at the end of the season.

The growing injury-list ahead of the final push of the Premier League season in no uncertain terms puts damper on Man City’s title hopes, recovering lost ground is going to be that much more challenging with a thinning starting XI. However, the correlating poor run of form in Premier League has been more damaging to the now slim shot at the title. With just one win in their last five fixtures, the Citizens (with a game in hand, mind), are now 12-points adrift of Leicester City at the top of the table. Most concerning, neither the Foxes nor the Spurs appear to be letting up.

Adding to the mounting pressure is the upcoming fascinating Manchester derby that captivates not just the entire city but avid Premier League fans the world over. Man City have the home advantage and have had the better of the Red Devils in recent meetings at the Etihad winning 1-0 last season and 4-1 the season prior to that before their delirious fans. But it’s worth noting that the last meeting this season resulted in a scoreless draw at the Old Trafford. Indeed, the Red Devils are undefeated in the last two meetings between the pair having won 4-2 at the Old Trafford in April of last year.

Manchester United
Manchester United bowed out of Europa League this week with a 3-1 loss on aggregate to Liverpool. The untimely exit is yet another cross to bear on what is becoming a rather disappointing season for Louis Van Gaal and his Red Devils, and, worryingly, the potential for more misery heaped upon them this week is very real with the upcoming date against cross-town rivals Man City.

Indeed bookies are installing the Citizens as the significant home favourites at -120 soccer odds at Bet365 to win outright while Man United are matched at whopping +375 soccer odds to win outright. Man United haven’t lost the last two meetings with Man City, but they come into this game without a win in their last four fixtures across several competitions and without a win in their last three away Premier League fixtures. A run of form that doesn’t augur well particularly as it features a draw to struggling Chelsea and losses to Sunderland and West Bromwich on the away.

Soccer Betting Verdict: Man City are definitely not playing up to their lofty standards in recent weeks, but they’ve had a tough schedule and injury concerns to contend with and those deserve some consideration. The important bit for soccer bettors to consider here is the fact that they are at home, where they are 10-1-4 on the season. That solid home form underlines their favourable -120 soccer odds to win outright. Man United, by contrast, are just 6-5-4 on the road and those recent road losses do nothing to encourage a wager their way at least not for the outright win. Indeed, it would be quite the upset all things being considered.

If you’re still of a mind to take Man United, your best bet is to take the double chance bet where the draw or Man United win is trading at +100. For our money, we’re taking Man City to bounce back with a win at home to their bitter neighbours on our soccer picks.
