In this week’s show topics include: Major League Soccer betting action, Wimbledon upsets, a highly anticipated rugby final, golf tournament betting, and an MLB update now that we’re just past the halfway mark of the season.
MLS Season Update and July 4th
The current MLS season is four months underway and BetOnline, David indicates that although there have been ups and downs, the house has come out ahead. As for particular upcoming matches, the Colorado Rapids are slight favourites at 1.28 on the 3-way line against the New York Red Bulls in Thursday night’s meeting. The action has been relatively light on the match and barring any last minute sharp activity, the number is likely to stay the same.
The LA Galaxy are 1.5 favourites against the Columbus Crew in their Independence Day meeting. The total goals market is set at 2½ with a slight lean toward the over, priced at -109 betting odds. The draw is priced at 3.3. There has been little significant movement on the match so a punter is likely to lock in a bet around these odds on either side.
As can be expected, BetOnline cleaned up during the first week of Wimbledon betting action with Rafael Nadal’s and Roger Federer’s first and second round exits among the upsets. The top seeded players were overwhelming favourites and included in many bettors’ futures tickets, the latter with more action than the individual matches. Interestingly BetOnline lost money on the Serena Williams upset as many sharp customers saw value in Sabine Lisicki in their fourth round meeting.
A majority of the remaining action is split between world’s number one Novak Djokokvic and Andy Murray on the men’s side. David correctly predicted that Lisicki would advance against Agnieska Radwanska in their semifinals match.
British & Irish Lions Rugby Final
The British & Irish Lions final test match against Australia comes after two thrilling meetings. BetOnline currently has the Irish Lions at even money. Much of the betting action has not yet trickled in on this market, but the line is likely to move closer to Saturday.
Golf Betting Action
In the golf world, there has been considerable action on the Greenbrier tournament matchups, including Nick Watney against Jimmie Walker. Vijay Singh is also a popular play in his match against Brian Gale, with about .40 of movement from the opening number. There has been outside money on Scott Piercey at 40/1 and Graham DeLaet at 20/1.
Major League Baseball Update through Halfway Mark
BetOnline is doing better than expected thus far through the 2013 MLB season, even with their offering of a dimeline. On the American League side of things, the Baltimore Orioles at 15/1 to win the World Series is a bet surging with popularity. Whilst, the Atlanta Braves are a trending World Series sports pick on the National League side at 9.5 to 1.
