Can Sunderland stop the slide into the relegation quagmire when they take on West Ham United on Saturday. Find out as we preview the soccer odds and serve up our soccer picks.

Sunderland Must Bounce Back
Sunderland suffered a beat down by the "mighty" Aston Villa last weekend, a 4-0 thumping at the Stadium of Light that they and their fans would much rather forget quickly. It would be nice to add that form prior to the loss was auspicious and that there is nothing to worry about. It was but a blip, so to speak. But that would be a lie.

Truth of the matter is the Black Cats have been abysmal of late. Their last win was ages ago, a 2-0 win over Burnley at the end of January. Since then they've gone without a top-flight win in six games (three losses and three draws). Conspicuously, they've struggled both home and away and last week's loss to the Villans was arguably one of their worst defeats in recent memory.

As such, it's not surprising the Black Cats travel to West Ham United as the +375 underdogs on the Premier League soccer odds board. Underscoring those odds is a discouraging road record of 2-7-5. Never mind their overall 4-14-11 record on the season.

West Ham United
The Hammers are sat pretty in tenth place in the Premier League, with a 10-9-10 record and  39 points. They are just a point behind Swansea City and three points behind Stoke City (eighth place). Advancing their cause in England's top flight is certainly achievable and they're sure to look upon their date with the Black Cats as an opportunity to capitalize on three crucial points. Anything less would be a disappointment for the hosts, you'd think.

As it is, the odds makers fancy the Hammers to win straight up at -118 soccer odds. Indeed, both the draw at +260 and a win by the Black Cats at +375 soccer odds have the feel of long shot soccer picks. Underscoring their odds is reliable form at home. For the season, the Hammers are 7-3-5 at Boleyn Ground, having won for the most part the games they were expected to and a couple they weren't, such as a 3-1 win over Liverpool and a 2-1 win over Man City.

Soccer Betting Verdict
After last week's beating, it's hard to imagine how the Black Cats would rise to the occasion at Boleyn Ground. Then again, they were in a similar position last season, if not worse.

There's a sense of gloom that hangs over the club right now that is not unlike last season when they were mired in the relegation battle, only to rally valiantly down the stretch and somehow clinch a spot in England's top flight for another season. Having done so before, there are many that would be willing to bank on it happening again. Question is, does it begin (if at all) this weekend when they take on the Hammers as the +375 underdogs? It's a long shot soccer pick, you have to agree.

West Ham United have had some setbacks in recent weeks, largely down to a tough stretch in the schedule that pit them against Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal in three of their last four games. But the sight of Sunderland on the weekend's schedule must fill them with some optimism and hope for a return to winning form. In fact, this is a game they should win and that makes them a solid option for your soccer picks at -118 to win outright.
