Burnley's bid to climb out of the relegation zone received a boost last week with a shocking win over Man City. Check this EPL soccer odds preview and find our soccer picks for this top flight clash.

Southampton Hot Faves
Southampton are the categorical favourites ahead of their clash with Burnley in Round 30 of EPL betting matched at -222 soccer odds to clinch the win and all three points at the expense of relegation threatened Burnley.

Last week, Southampton earned a point from their trip to Stamford Bridge against the soccer odds (the draw was trading on the sports betting floor at +330). Granted Chelsea were still reeling from their untimely Champions League exit to PSG in the R16, but they have only themselves to blame for the wasteful account. Rather Nemanja Matic, who brought down Sadio Mane in the box – mere minutes after the Blues took the lead – only to concede a penalty. Dusan Tadic, however, wasted no time converting the spot-kick into an equaliser. And just like that the Saints had their first point against the Blues at Stamford Bridge since 2001.

What started as a promising day for the league-leaders ended on a sour note. It wasn't to be business as usual for Jose Mourinho and his Blues and the Saints should get a lot of credit for that. The equaliser came by way of a penalty, but the Saints showed spirit and adventure at Stamford Bridge and stubbornly refused to yield ground. In fact, once they equalised it was they who set the tone for the rest of the game while the Blues appeared rattled and edgy on the field. All of a sudden, it wasn't going to script. Maybe the Saints didn't get the memo about Chelsea's  preordained right to win the Premier League title.

Saints Bid For Top Four Finish
The Saints are sat pretty in sixth place in the table with a 15-5-9 mark and 50 points, which includes a stellar mark at home 8-3-4 and boasts 25 goals scored while conceding just 10. Although the Saints are level on points with Tottenham Hotspurs and six points behind Manchester United in fourth place, the positive result at the expense of Chelsea shows the Saints aren't  ready to give up on a fourth place finish in the table just yet. There are nine rounds of Premier League to go and the Saints are a lively soccer pick at +1000 to pull of the significant accomplishment. Admittedly, the date with Burnley affords a brilliant opportunity for the Saints to advance this bid.

Burnley Campaign For EPL Survival
Burnley stunned soccer betting markets when they beat defending champions Man City 1-0 at Turf Moor. They also revived their hopes for Premier League survival as they closed the gap on Sunderland and, effectively safety as well, to just a point.

There's an argument to be had about scheduling. The fact that Man City were stopping over at Turf Moor before a pivotal date with Barcelona at Camp Nou on Wednesday. The second leg of their Champions League tie that was precariously perched on a 2-1 score to Barcelona and that Man City had high hopes of overturning. Needless to say, it wouldn't be going out on a limb to suggest the Citizens were probably more preoccupied about their Champions League fortunes than they were about their date with Burnley. Then again, they probably didn't expect to lose to the relegation-threatened Clarets either.

This week, the Clarets hit the road armed with renewed hope. Not that it's evident in soccer betting markets where they are matched as the outrageous +750 underdogs. Even the draw is trading at +350 soccer odds.

To be fair, it's a bit of a stretch to expect basement dwelling Burnley to pull off back-to-back results against top-tier clubs. The obvious reason is the gap in quality and depth. Not to mention their road form leaves much to be desired at 1-5-8 on the season (12 goals scored and 28 conceded).

Soccer Betting Verdict
On one hand, as Burnley capitalised on a distracted Man City so too did Southampton capitalise on a disillusioned Chelsea. That said Southampton aren't a top tier club just by chance. They showed their merit at Stamford Bridge last week and thoroughly deserved the point on the draw. More likely than not they'll carry that momentum in this clash and come through for soccer bettors as the -222 soccer pick to win outright. Everybody loves a Cinderella Story, but Burnley's dreams of making the Premier League Ball next season are unlikely to come at the expense of the Saints. That is so long as the Saints don't underestimate these significant underdogs.
