Lazio vs. Chievo
Bet365 give Chievo a 6/1 chance and the draw at 3/1 on the soccer odds boards. The corresponding fixture in Verona back in September ended 3-1 in favour of the side from Rome with Klose and Hernanes (2) getting the goals in a comfortable win.
It was a rather strange week for Lazio where they could have actually gone top of the league, if only for a few hours, by winning in Sicily last weekend, but were held 2-2 after leading through an early Sergio Floccari strike1-0, conceding two goals in as many minutes at struggling Palermo to then fall behind 2-1. A late Hernanes penalty for the Biancocelesti then made it honours even in an entertaining and sometimes thrilling encounter. Juve's 4-0 mauling of Udinese in Turin means that Lazio now sit five points behind the leaders in third on the same points total as second place Napoli.
They then drew 1-1 at Juventus in the Coppa Italia last night thanks to an 86th minute Alessandro Matri equaliser to take a slender advantage but an all important away goal back to Rome for the second leg of their semi-final next week. Lazio were without Miroslav Klose, Abdoullay Konko and Ederson through injury and the banned Andre Dias for this tie and could be missing all three injured stars again for the early game Saturday. So, all in all a mixed week but ultimately a successful and undefeated one though they would have been expecting to take all three points from Palermo to remain right on the heels of The Old Lady.
Lazio can also thank their in-form goalkeeper, Federico Marchetti, for their success in Turin midweek. He produced a string of fine saves as he continues to be an immense help for the side from the Capital and who says titles aren't decided by goalkeepers, just ask Alex Ferguson about the contribution of Peter Schmeichel to his treble winning Manchester United team!
Chievo bounced back to some degree at least after their heavy 4-0 loss in Bologna two weeks ago to draw with Parma 1-1 and but for the heroics of Parma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante would have secured all three points in a game they for the most part dominated though they went in at half time 1-0 down somehow and could have lost it at the end when an Amauri angled drive flashed across the face of goal and hit the base of the back post. Still, they will have been encouraged by their performance and reaction to the defeat the previous week.
Lazio have won 14 games to Chievo's seven in Serie A this season with both sides drawing four. Lazio have lost just once all season long at home in Serie A, winning nine and drawing one to have the best home record in the whole league. Chievo have won just two away from home all season and have yet to draw, losing eight. Lazio last failed to score in a game on December 10th drawing 0-0 in Bologna and have netted 13 times in the eight games since.
Chievo have won four of their seven victories this season in the last eight weeks, drawing and losing two in that sequence and as I always say about the 'Italian QPR' they almost always turn up and give the opposition a battle and have a couple of notable scalps to their name this season, including beating Roma 1-0 in Verona a few weeks ago. A repeat of that score against the other side from Stadio Olimpico can be had for 14/1 with William Hill and it must be noted that like Juventus, Lazio do seem to save their poor performances for the lower placed sides as defeats to Genoa and a draw at bottom club Siena and last weekend in Palemo seem to support.
After two straight draws that were preceded by four wins on the bounce I expect Lazio to get back to winning ways this weekend but I do not expect too many goals in this game as Chievo rarely concede more than two in any one game but conversely have only scored more than two once all season, beating Genoa 4-2. Lazio have netted three in a game nine times this season in all competitions and only conceded three (or more) twice.
So, I am leaning very much towards a home win in Rome in this match for my football betting at 6/10 with William Hill and with Lazio only allowing two or more goals against them twice in their last 15 games do not see Chievo getting anything from this gave save a possible consolation goal and I am not even giving them that here as I am liking 2-0 at 6/1 with William Hill. As for the under 2.5 it is of small value at 4/5 with bet365 and the best value I can see in this game is Chievo holding Lazio until the second half with the Draw/Lazio at 18/5.
If you think Chievo can hold the Roman side and force them to their third draw in as many games then 3/1 with bet365 is where your money should be with 0-0 at 10/1 and 1-1 at 13/2 the only two viable options really. And if the unlikely away win takes your fancy at 6/1 then I am afraid you are on your own but 1-0 at 14/1 represents the only value in that idea for me and is surely only for the die-hard loyalty betters amongst you!
Free Football Tips: Home win for me at 6/10 and a 2-0 correct score prediction at 6/1 with the under 2.5 at 4/5 all with William Hill
