Everton open against promoted side Watford in round 1 of Premier League. Predictably, the Toffees are the clear-cut favorites on the soccer betting board to get off the mark in winning fashion.

Everton Restart
Everton look to hit the restart button in 2015 and put behind them a rather sketchy 2014-2015 season that left much to be desired. As a result, the pressure is on Roberto Martinez as it never was before; his challenge will be to inspire the Toffees to reclaim their sensational form of two seasons ago, if not better or he might find himself on the chopping block.

In 2013-2014, Roberto Martinez led Everton to a Top 6 finish. They went 21-9-8 for 72 points and finished fifth in the table, above Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. As a result, the 2014-2015 season served up a more demanding schedule with Europa League action over and above domestic commitments across several competitions.

In hindsight, that may have been partly why the Toffees struggled. Ironically, they did play some of their best football on the European front though but those Thursday dates did appear to take their toll. At one point, they were dangerously floating with relegation, so far they’d fallen behind the pace. By season end, Everton picked up form somewhat to climb out of danger and clinch 11th spot in the league with a 12-11-15 mark and 47 points, but it was their lowest league finish in almost a decade.

As it is, Everton is in the mix for a Top 6 finish on the Premier League futures board, but how realistic are their chances? They are priced at +275 soccer odds to pull off the feat, which puts them eighth in line after the usual suspects of Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal and Manchester United, and the perennial threat from Tottenham, Liverpool and Southampton.

Watford Promoted
The Hornets look to impress in England’s top flight, but the soccer odds are stacked heavily against them in every single market. Mainly, they are amongst the favorites to be relegated by season end.

Predictably, they go into their opening match as the severe underdogs at +350 soccer odds to win outright. Even the draw is trading at a high of +275 soccer odds.

Watford come into the Premier League after finishing runners-up to Bournemouth in Championship Football last season. As far as their potential in the coming season goes, it’s difficult to say because of all the comings and goings on the pitch. The club has been busy in the offseason, trading furiously for players such as Etienne Capoue (Tottenham), Valon Behrami (Hamburg), Jose Holebas (Roma) and Miguel Britos (Napoli), amongst several others.

With all the changes going on, this looks to be a different team from the one that competed in second-tier competition last season. Whether this will translate into something meaningful from week to week in England’s top flight is the question. It’s safe to say, they shouldn’t be written off just yet from survival.

Soccer Betting Verdict
At first glance, the soccer betting outlook makes sense when considering the balance involves a Premier League stalwart taking on promoted upstart. If looking solely at the season Everton’s coming off then one has to concede Watford might fancy its chances, if not to win outright on the road then to force the draw, which is a tempting soccer pick at +275 soccer odds.

Of course, expectations run high at Goodison Park. A draw to Watford isn’t exactly the sort of opener Roberto Martinez and the Toffees have in mind. They have the home edge and experience that should convert to a winning start at -138 soccer odds at Bet365, but we’re feeling no joy. Put this way, we won’t be shocked if Watford play above expectations and serve up the draw.

Soccer Picks: Everton -138 to win at Bet365

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":, "sportsbooksIds":[43], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]
