Two of the Europa League favourites go head-to-head in Germany in the quarter finals. William Hill's Lee Phelps is looking at the betting to find the best odds for his free picks.

The UEFA Europa League Odds favourites welcome Napoli to town in what promises to be an intriguing mix of styles in this quarter final.

It’s been a superb season for the Bundesliga team so far, sitting behind Bayern Munich in second having beaten the champions-elect and Champions League favourites 4-1 in January.

They have scored 21 goals so far in this tournament, but have conceded 12 too. It is the goals in the ‘for’ column they need to worry about in my opinion, because the Naples’ side will go to Germany looking for a clean sheet.

Wolfsburg have proved they can score goals against Serie A opposition, beating Internazionale 5-2 on aggregate in the round of 16.

I do think they will have to go for a win at home though, because as Klaus Allofs, Wolfsburg sporting director, explains they will have a tough job on Italian soil: “I don't know if we are favourites. The challenge is getting tougher for us, and Napoli should be stronger than Inter – they have a great striker in Gonzalo Higuaín and an experienced coach in Rafael Benítez. Furthermore, we must expect a very intense atmosphere in Naples.”

Napoli are one of three former UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League winners left in the competition. A side led by Diego Maradona won the trophy in 1989 after beating German opponents – in the shape of VfB Stuttgart – 5-4 on aggregate in the final.

Their manager Rafa Benítez has a golden touch when it comes to European trophies, he has lifted the UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League twice as a coach, with Valencia CF (2004) and Chelsea FC (2013) and of course led Liverpool to the Champions League title.

Benitez Napoli side is all about discipline. Not only in terms of fouls and cards, but also shape and defence. On the disciplinary side of things, they have picked up just eight yellow cards in their 10 matches. That is half the amount of the next best of the quarter-finalists – their opponents Wolfsburg have 16. Interestingly they have committed 17 more fouls than their German rivals.

On the defensive side of things, they have conceded just four goals in their 10 matches, scoring 19, including three successive clean sheets on the road and four in their five matches  (they lost 2-0 at Young Boys in the group stages).

Soccer Pick
For this soccer pick is all about making a decision on who will get their way in the first leg. The goal scoring of Wolfsburg or the defensive discipline of Napoli. Because I believe it is harder to score than set up a strong defence, I’m going for Napoli’s style to win the day, even if they don’t win the match.
