Euro Cup 2016: How To Profit On The Switzerland vs. Poland Matchup

Switzerland take on Poland in the last 16 of Euro 2016. We preview this highly-anticipated matchup and serve up soccer picks to bet on, so read on and make some cash!

Switzerland Runners-up in Group A
Pre-tournament markets had Switzerland as the second-best bet to advance into the knockouts of Euro 2016, a market outlook that proved to be spot on. The Swiss finished second in group A behind France following an undefeated run that comprised of a win and two draws.

They opened their campaign with a 1-0 win over Albania and then held Romania and France to draws to collect five points and clinch the coveted runner-up position in the section. Overall, the Swiss scored just two goals and conceded 1 goal through three games.

Poland Runners-up in Group C
For many soccer bettors group C was one of the proverbial groups of death in the competition with powerhouse Germany and Northern Ireland and Ukraine. Although group D probably fits that billing better with Spain, Croatia, Czech Republic and Turkey. In any event, Poland delivered on expectations to advance by clinching second-place, doing so all while matching Germany on 7 points.

Poland went undefeated through three rounds with two wins and a draw. They beat Northern Ireland 1-0 in their opener and Ukraine 1-0 in their last fixture. On match day 2, they rose to the challenge of the World Champions and held Joachim Low’s side to a scoreless draw. All told, Poland scored just two goals and conceded none.

Match Betting Tips and Picks
On the strength of the respective accounts of both Switzerland and Poland – both undefeated in group play – we can safely assume these are tough to beat sides. The market currently favours Poland to win in 90 minutes, setting up Polska as the +170 favourites, a price available with William Hill. However, it’s worth noting that the Polish didn’t open as the favourites with all bookmakers. They were priced at +190 or thereabouts but have come down to +170 ever since, which is an indication that betting has gone in their favour causing their soccer odds to shorten.

The Swiss, meanwhile, who opened as the marginal favourites around +180 are now backed out to  +230 or thereabouts depending on your choice sportsbook and the draw is trading at +192, a price available with Pinnacle. Clearly, public betting isn’t buying what the Swiss are selling.

For the most part though this is a tight soccer betting line, which does suggest that the pair could cancel each other out. Indeed, we’re loathe to serve up either side on our soccer picks given the fact that their group accounts were so similar and neither one makes a strong enough case to make it the unequivocal bet. Then there is the fact that many pundits, experts and fans alike are calling a draw in this game.

The upshot of which is we’re taking a safe approach with our bets here. It’s possible to simply go for the draw, which is an attractive play at +190 soccer odds, but the double chance betting market gives more wiggle room and an opportunity to cover a couple of basis.

Look at the double chance betting markets, where a Poland win or draw in 90 minutes is trading at -220 with 888sport or a Swiss win or draw is trading at -200 with bet365. Granted the odds are less attractive in terms of return on investment but the upside is that you cover two results – a win and a draw, giving you more opportunities to win your bet. It’s definitely something to consider with many experts calling a draw in this match.

For our money, we’re looking at the Swiss to pull off a mini upset and as such we’re leaning towards them on our soccer picks, but we won’t be surprised if Poland do come through. So don’t go betting the farm on it.
