Sunderland will be praying Southampton's season is all-but over here, because they need 3 points desperately. William Hill's Lee Phelps has been weighing up the home win soccer odds for his free pick.

We have another classic end of season game where one team will have been on their nerves all week, training hard for the kick off and the other are half dreaming of the beach and luxury spas. Sunderland are a point adrift of safety and desperately need the three points to move away from the bottom three, while Southampton desperately need to pack their flip flops and sun cream.

Sunderland
The recent upturn in form of Hull and Leicester has left Sunderland with all sorts of problems. They were starting to look relatively safe only a few weeks ago, however they are now looking at their remaining fixtures with only the game in hand to give them any comfort. The bad news is that game is against Arsenal. Before that they have Everton away and Leicester at home. I believe they need three points in this match and three in the match against the Foxes, then everything else is a bonus.

Sunderland suffered their biggest defeat in league football losing 8-0 to Saints at St Mary’s scoring three own goals and looking far from a professional outfit that day. Every player will remember that day and will surely be looking to put it right.

The Black cats have won just one of their last 10 Premier League games (W1 D4 L5) and that was against the equally bereft Newcastle.

Southampton
The hosts will perhaps be buoyed by the fact that Southampton have failed to win a single one of their last four outings and in truth look to have finally run out of steam after a tremendous season. I’ve been saying for a while that Saints’ defence is the thing that has held firm even when other parts of the game have faltered, but that great away record (they are still the best defence with just 14 goals conceded) is creaking, with five goals conceded in the last four games.

They go with confidence, in fact Southampton are unbeaten in their last six league visits to the Stadium of Light (W1 D5 L0), but did lose there in both cup competitions last season.

Saints have recorded their best ever Premier League points haul (57), despite having four games to play, yet another reason why they don’t have to push it now.

There is some significant team news this week too, with both Morgan Schneiderlin and Dusan Tadic out for the rest of the season. They are two players who have been a key part of the attack.

Soccer picks
Looking at the soccer odds, I'm sensing lack of goal threat for Southampton and I’m very tempted to go with the team who must win for this soccer pick. I know that doesn’t mean they will win, but at 4.0 (3/1) I’m willing to take a risk of Sunderland delivering here. If they do win I think it will be low-scoring so under 1.5 goals at 3.0 (2/1) is another bet I like.
