Arsenal has won 8 straight games against Newcastle United, & with Toon striker Papiss Cissé out serving his 7-game FA ban for his Spitting Incident, is backing the Gunners a wise idea? You betcha.

Odds Overview
Newcastle United vs. Arsenal, Saturday 15:00 (NBCSN, NBC Sports Live Extra, Mun2 (USA); 11 p.m. ET/8 a.m. PT): Newcastle-upon-Tyne and St. James’ Park is the site of this Week 30 English Premier League fixture between visiting and now third-place Arsenal (17-6-6, 56 GF-30 GA) and host and 11th-place Newcastle United (9-8-12, 32 GF-46 GA) on Saturday. Soccer odds makers have made the visiting Gunners expected -175 favorites with  Newcastle United massive +500 underdogs and the Draw priced at +280 (bet365) in the Three-Way (Winner) market. The Total Goals in this match is set at 2½ with Over at -137 and the Under +100 (bet365). The Both Teams To Score odds here have the Yes priced at -137 with the No set at +100 (Sky Bet). A random proposition wager for this game tied in with the predicted final below, Correct Score: Arsenal 2-1, +850 (bet365).

Arsenal FC
Arsène Wenger’s Arsenal (7-3-5 Away, 23 GF-19 GA) are the second-hottest team form-wise in the English Premier League right now, earning 15 of a possible 18 points in its L6 games (5-0-1) and moving firmly into third place in the league table (56 points), now just 1 thin point behind 2nd-place and defending English Premier League champions Manchester City (57 points). On Wednesday, the Gunners were eliminated from UEFA Champions League play, winning Leg 2 of their Round of 16 Knockout Stage series with AS Monaco in France, 2-0, but failing to move on despite the 3-3 aggregate score due to the 3 Away goals the Ligue 1 side put up at the Emirates Stadium in North London in Leg 1 in a 3-1 win. So, Arsenal will now be able to concentrate on Premier League play, and it definitely wouldn’t surprise many now if the Gunners somehow ended up above the Citizens in the standings in 2nd place, and maybe even make a run at first-place Chelsea (64 points). Seven points is still just 7 points and May 24 is still over 2 months away. You never know. Anyway, here against the Toon on Saturday, Arsenal will look to spark-plug Alexis Sánchez (Anytime Goalscorer, +130, bet365), Olivier Giroud (+120), Aaron Ramsey (+175), Danny Welbeck (+150), Theo Walcott (+162), Tomáš Rosický (+175), Santi Cazorla (+225), Mesut Özil (+275) and maybe even Chuba Akpom (+162), among others, for scoring and the visitors should definitely be able to score at least 2 goals here—a good starting point for a number of different wagers.

Newcastle United FC
Newcastle United (6-4-4 Home, 19 GF-18 GA) has relied again heavily this season on Papiss Cissé (11 goals), but the talented Senegalese striker is out now, suspended 7 games by the FA for Spitting Incident Worldwide Soccer No. 7,405—he and Manchester United’s Jonny Evans exchanged oral bodily fluids in a very negative way earlier this month arguing over their Mum’s respective Carrot Cake recipes I believe—so the Toon will be Cissé-less in a fixture in which they could really use his services. Here, we now have a team in Newcastle United which gives up way too many goals (46)—and often has trouble scoring them—now without their star scorer. Woe is thee. Magpie pie possibly for dessert Saturday evening? Newcastle only has two other players with more than 2 goals on their roster in Ayoze Pérez (5 goals; Anytime Goalscorer +275, bet365) and Jack Colback (3 goals, +1000), so, new Manager John Carver may have to be a tad creative. Maybe see if sport legend Pelé would like to spend a little time down on the Geordie Shore along with Charlotte, Gary and Papiss. Hopefully, attacking players like Emmanuel Rivière (+300), Adam Armstrong (+400), Yoan Gouffran (+450), Rémy Cabella (+400), Moussa Sissoko (+650) and Sammy Ameobi (+450) can come through, but it will be hard for the Magpies—who seem to have way too much trouble mounting consistent scoring threats—to put immense amounts of pressure on Arsenal here, therefore probably (again) putting pressure on their own club’s GK, Tim Krul. And the Gunners will definitely be testing him here this weekend in a tough scheduling spot without their main man on the attack against one of the hottest teams in the English Premier League. This too shall pass.

Best Betting Approaches and Trends
Arsenal and Newcastle United have fairly even marks against each other overall, with the Gunners 59-34-58 (214 GF-200 GA) holding just the slightest of edges (1 win, 14 goals) over 151 meetings. The Magpies are an impressive 36-19-20 versus Arsenal here at Home at St. James’ Park, but the Gunners have absolutely owned this series as of late, winning 7 straight overall against the Magpies (18 GF-5 GA); 6 in a row in EPL play; and, Arsenal is 6-2-0 over the L8 against Newcastle, which has failed to even score a goal in the L3 games against Arsène’s Army. Not scary at all, bruh. And the Toon are just 4-11-24 in their L39 meetings in all competitions against the Gunners, with their last win coming all the way back in Week 11 in 2011 when Newcastle won 1-0 at the Emirates when we were all still young and innocent and knew not of really stupid things like Bitcoin, Google Glass and Iggy Azalea. You already know. The last time these two clubs met in English Premier League action was in Week 16 when Arsenal rolled to a 4-1 victory in North London, while in this fixture last season here at St. James’ Park at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the Gunners as GK Wojciech  Szczesny registered the Clean Sheet in a 1-0 victory. Nothing from nothing leaves nothing.

With Arsenal in such good form now and eyeballing the Sky Blues in 2nd place, UEFA Champions League play out of the way, the 8-game unbeaten and 7-game winning streaks against the Toon, Cissé on the sidelines and the reasonable price (-175) on the Gunners, this is a great game to have equal straight bets on Arsenal and the Over (2½) in my mind as the visitors could very well pop a 3-spot (or more) up against the hosts and take the Total over themselves, while also winning their backers a little Butter in the process. Look for the main men on Arsenal’s attack—Sánchez, Giroud, Walcott, Ramsey and possibly even someone like Welbeck and Rosický—to come through in this fixture and keep the team in the winning groove it’s currently enjoying. This one really stands out. Take Arsenal as your Soccer pick no questions asked.
