Elks vs. Lions Week 9 CFL Picks: BC Hoping To Beat Down on Edmonton Again

The B.C. Lions made a statement in Week 1 by demolishing the Edmonton Elks but can they do it again this week? Find out with our Elks-Lions picks for Week 9 in the CFL.

Very few expected the BC Lions to start the season with as much success as they have. Nathan Rourke, their Canadian quarterback, has set the league on fire approaching 2,000 passing yards this season and 16 touchdowns. B.C. is 5-1 with no signs of slowing down.

The Edmonton Elks are still trying to figure things out. They have suffered injuries and poor play this season and are 2-5 as a result. It will take a much better effort to win this week than they showed in their 24-10 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Here are our Elks-Lions CFL picks for Week 9 (odds via DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook, and BetMGM).

Elks vs. Lions ML Pick

Lions (-460)

The Lions started their surprising start to the season by handing the Elks a 59-15 loss. Since then they have gone on to average the most points per game (33.5) and their only loss has come by way of the undefeated Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Edmonton is winless this season against divisional opponents. The Elks feature the league’s second-worst offense averaging just under 18 points per game, and their defense is the worst against the running game giving up 131.9 yards per game. That puts James Butler back in play this week. Butler rushed for over 100 yards and for two of his four total touchdowns in Week 1.

Expect the Lions to get another win and continue their great start.

Elks vs. Lions ATS Pick

Elks +11 (-110)

The Elks have yet to be the favorites to win this season. However, they have not been double-digit underdogs despite their struggles. Edmonton is 3-4 ATS overall this year, and are 2-0 when their opponents are favored by at least nine points.

B.C. will have to cover its largest spread of the season here this week. Last week on July 21 against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats they were 9.5-point favorites. They won that game, but the 17-12 final was not good enough to cover.

Elks vs. Lions O/U Pick

Over 51.5 (-115)

Five of Edmonton’s seven games this season have exceeded this total. This includes their Week 1 matchup against the Lions. Despite averaging only 17.1 points a game, their defense is allowing a league-worst 34.9 points per game.

The Lions have played in three games that have surpassed this Over. They average the most points per game in the league this season and are facing the worst defense in the league in that category. There will be plenty of points.
