The UFC odds makers are setting lines on more than just who wins on the featured title tilt at UFC 200. Let’s examine the prop odds on Jones vs. Cormier and cash those tickets.

Total Rounds 4½ (O-156, U+131)
Until someone defeats Jon Jones, he is the baddest man on the planet and the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. You may not respect him or even like him but you cannot possibly eliminate him from the greatest of all-time discussion. Certainly there have been chinks in his armor, as many recall when he escaped with a grueling unanimous decision over Alexander Gustafsson, or perhaps his somewhat lethargic win over Ovince Saint Preux in his return to the Octagon after a suspension and a slew of legal issues. You can even make the case that he has not finished anyone in over three years.

All valid points, which leads me to the issue of whether to go high or low in our UFC picks for total rounds in his championship title fight with Daniel Cormier. If you recall their initial fight, Daniel Cormier had to be elated when Jones engaged him in the clinch and fought his fight in the proverbial phone booth. The only problem for Cormier was that Jones did it better than he and by the time the championship rounds ensued, Cormier was out of gas and out of options.

This time it will be different. Jones has already proven he can beat Cormier at his own game and will instead use his enormous height and reach to his advantage. Cormier will bull rush Jones as he did in the last fight but Jones will deflect, avoid and snipe. He understands a finish can be had if he uses his reach and launches from afar. That is what will happen and I don’t see Cormier lasting through the third round.

Fight ends by KO, TKO or DQ
Cormier +1250
Jones +260

As stated above, this fight is Jones’ for the taking and his game plan will be far different than in his previous fight. Jones will launch crazy spinning kicks and make Cormier pay when he comes inside. This will not be the close range mauling that it was in their first fight.

On the flipside, Cormier understands that he will not outpoint Jones in a technical chess match. No, Cormier will be loaded for bear and will push the pace, exposing himself each and every time when he does so. Jones makes a statement with a TKO in this one and we like what the UFC odds makers are dealing here.

Jones Wins in Which Round
Round 1 +600
Round 2 +800
Round 3 +1200
Round 4 +1800
Round 5 +2200

And the UFC Props winner is – round No. 3! The first round will allow Jones to find his range on the stalking Cormier. Jones will undoubtedly be held in the clinch allowing for the champion’s dirty boxing to commence. Jones will have to maintain discipline and not engage as he did in the first fight with tight elbows and knees landing from inside. Jones’ plan is to maintain distance and gain velocity in all of his strikes.

The second round will see Jones to gauging his timing and beginning the inevitable assault on Cormier. The champion will have less success getting inside and JBJ’s withering assault will begin to take its toll. Cormier will survive the second round but it will only postpone the inevitable. By the third round Cormier will be bloodied and battered, hanging in there only because he knows no other way. Eventually, the referee will stop this one somewhere inside round three and Jones will reclaim his title.
