After being mostly in the East and South, we head back out West where Del Mar has opened and we will have free picks from there and Belmont.

Though there will not be racing aficionados in the stands, for those that have been to Del Mar, the drive to the track and the area is fabulous. They opened their meet on Friday and it continues Sunday and that includes a stakes race. Quite a place.

We make just one stop at Belmont this week and they also have a stakes race and a couple of others with good-sized purses. For horse racing picks, we have started even better than usual with 15 exact or better winners and four others that paid. The NBCSN, FS1, and FS2 will follow the days’ action.

Belmont Race: 1

Post Time: 12:30 EDT
Surface: Dirt   Distance: 6 Furlongs

Morning Line Favorite at 5Dimes: #4 Into Chocolate

Backstretch News: We have a strong opener at Belmont with six horses that are noted sprinters at their level. Into Chocolate is the best of the bunch. IC is off a great workout and has Belmont’s No. 2 jockey in J. Ortiz and is well trained by W. Mott. Sadie Lady has the ability to hunt down the favorite, having slightly better speed and has won three times in six tries in sprints. Fair Regis should be a factor, loves this track (4-4-1 in 12 attempts), and is 8-4-3 (WPS) in 17 shots at about this distance.

Horse Racing Picks:  1) #4 Into Chocolate 2) #5 Sadie Lady 3) #1 Fair Regis

Longshot Pick: #6 Phantom Shot (10-1 odds)

Belmont Race: 6

Post Time: 3:19 EDT
Surface: Dirt   Distance: 7 Furlongs

Morning Line Favorite at 5Dimes: #14 Fight On Lucy

Backstretch News: With 14 horses and the favorite way out on the outside, this is anyone’s race. Only one horse has put together three solid efforts of late which further complicates the situation. Moana’s Tale is who we are referring to in the last sentence but her Beyer Speed Figures (66-64-62) just keep her in the mix. Drynachan has comparable numbers in its last two trips (62-68) and its trainer is 3-2 (WP) in his last 10 races. Taking a flyer on Dancingwthdaffodls, with somewhat better Beyer’s (68-74) and having Ortiz aboard.

Horse Racing Picks:  1) #1 Dancingwthdaffodls 2) #8 Drynachan 3) #2 Moana’s Tale

Longshot Pick: #7 Amos (12-1)

Belmont Race: 8

Post Time: 4:23 EDT
Surface: Turf   Distance: 1 ½ Miles

Morning Line Favorite at 5Dimes: #6 Olympic Games (FR)

Backstretch News: This is the $80,000 River Memories Stakes and favored Olympic Games makes a third start in the states and to this point has been good, not great. We are going with the speed and consistency of Wegetsdamunnys (87-88-89) to win. Though Lemon Zip lacked much zip in its last trip, #4 is off of two terrific workouts and is a distance specialist. A mixed bag for third and we settled on Beale Street, who has a bit more run than the others, yet, still has question marks.

Horse Racing Picks:  1) #9 Wegetsdamunnys 2) #4 Lemon Zip 3) #2 Beale Street

Longshot Pick: #2 Beale Street (10-1)

Del Mar Race: 6

Post Time: 7:37 EDT
Surface: Turf   Distance: 1 Mile

Morning Line Favorite at 5Dimes: #1 Super Patriot

Backstretch News: We begin at Del Mar with the $65,000 Osunitas Stakes for fillies and mares. Super Patriot has the smallest horse racing odds at 8/5 and is the major player in this one. SP will have noted West Coast jockey F. Prat working the reins and definitely has the talent to win. Sedamar gets the call for second and who knows, she could win if the favorite is pinned on the rail and #7 is 3-of-4 at Del Mar and has the same record at this distance. Don’t Blame Judy in theory should not draw a lot of support, however, enters with two rallying finishes.

Horse Racing Picks: 1) #1 Super Patriot 2) #7 Sedamar 3) #2 Don’t Blame Judy

Longshot Pick: #2 Don’t Blame Judy (8-1)

Del Mar Race: 8

Post Time: 8:37 EDT
Surface: Turf   Distance: 1 1/16 Mile

Morning Line Favorite at 5Dimes: #3 Red Lark (IRE)

Backstretch News: Red Lark and California Kook are head and head and shoulders above the 10 in this field. Because Del Mar has quinella wagering, you can bet this combo and if right, have a winner. If you want an exacta wager, the locals prefer the favorite, RL, we say CK. For third, pulling for Carpe Vinum who has longer odds, but who has the always dangerous rider A. Cedillo, who cashes tickets.

Horse Racing Picks:  1) #4 California Kook 2) #4 Red Lark 3) #2 Carpe Vinum

Longshot Pick: #2 Carpe Vinum (12-1)

Del Mar Race: 9

Post Time: 9:07 EDT
Surface: Dirt   Distance: 6 Furlongs

Morning Line Favorite at 5Dimes: #6 I Am the Danger

Backstretch News: Four of the seven entered in this race should have a legit shot and we are taking that down to three. Our suggestion is ‘box’ betting action, and we’ll start with P R Radio Star, who ventures west after finishing a strong second at Churchill (we won with him) and who has eight career victories and also draws Prat for the journey. Tiger Dad has a superior appeal with 11 straight Top 3 finishes. To complete our ticket, we have Kneedeepinsnow and Principe Carlo to choose from and it’s the former, who notably prefers the dirt.

Horse Racing Picks:  1) #4 P R Radio Star 2) #5 Tiger Dad 3) #1 Kneedeepinsnow

Longshot Pick: #4 P R Radio Star (12-1)

See you back here next Thursday with more horse racing picks, Good Luck!
