MMA bettors have something to be excited about. They always get the short end of the stick waiting for the weekend cards but the return of the Contender Series means more action.

This week there is no notable MMA action for us to bet on and that's a hard truth. Most sports bettors have the opportunity to throw their cash down daily with the way sports like basketball, hockey, and baseball run. Football fans around about the only ones who feel our pain and we feel REALLY bad for them since MMA is at least year around.

In an attempt to create a “feeder league” where young up and coming fighters can prove themselves and fight there way into the big leagues the UFC created The Ultimate Fighter. TUF has 28 seasons and has been running since 2005 where it started airing on Spike TV. Remember Spike TV? While TUF was successful in uncovering some of the UFC’s biggest stars in generations past such as Forrest Griffin, Rashad Evans, and Diego Sanchez it appears to be losing its shine. TUF still uncovers phenomenal fighters and puts eyes on young MMA fighters who otherwise may not get the opportunity to shine, but the ratings have been steadily dropping and the pre-filmed “stick them all in a house and watch the drama” approach is pretty outdated. I say this is a former TUF fan who literally bought the DVDs of the seasons to rewatch them.

Everything that TUF has to offer is compacted and offered in a much more modern package on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series. It offers fighters a platform to get their names out there and they still do fighter spotlights so you “get to know them” at least a bit. Not to the extent that you get on TUF where you watch them interact for weeks at a time, but enough for you to grow attached to a fighter’s story. They chose a night where there is generally not a lot going on and the fights are live! Not only do we get another helping of young hungry fighters looking to break through and giving it everything they have, but since the episodes are not prefilmed, we are allowed to bet on them! We were introduced to fighters like Greg Hardy, Dwight Grant, and Jalin Turner on The Contender Series. The promise that these fighters are showing once they get to the big show leaves us wanting as much Contender Series as they will give us!

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Mark your calendars! #June18 @puna185 #TeamHawaii #DWTNCS @ufc pic.twitter.com/TvFu9iVBt0
— Team Hawaii Promos (@WeAreTeamHawaii) May 20, 2019
\n\n"}[/]

As bettors this gives us something to fill our Sunday and Monday evenings with! Most of the fighters who are starred on The Contender Series are just attempting to break out of the regional scene, so if you want to catch that value where the books have left it on the table you will have to dig into the dark corners of Youtube and watch the video some dude’s aunt uploaded of his first MMA fight to get an idea of what these fighters are capable of. It actually makes it pretty fun to try to beat the books on a random Tuesday night.

Season 3 kicks off with a bang and Episode 1’s fight card looks like its stacked with up and coming talent. Take a look at the line up:

Punahele Soriano (5-0) vs. Jamie Pickett (9-3)

Brok Weaver (13-4) vs. Leon Shahbazyan (7-1)

Kali Robbins (6-2) vs. Hannah Goldy (4-0)

Bill Algeo (12-3) vs. Brendan Loughnane (16-3)

Yorgan De Castro (4-0) vs. Alton Meeks (3-0)

There’s plenty of time to research Season 3 Episode 1, so get digging! And we will be keeping a close eye as the Contender Series gets closer, so once those lines drop don’t be surprised if a couple of picks come your way!
