We expected one of these sides to get to this point -- but that side was not Russia. Can they upset the odds once again and beat a more-than-decent Croatia team in Saturday's quarterfinals?

Now though, they are in a World Cup quarterfinal on Saturday and that will surely come as a surprise to most, as I doubt many people expected a Russia v Croatia match at this stage.

That’s what we’ve got though and I suspect Russia’s tireless running will have put some doubt into people’s minds as to which way they should go in this one. Not me, though. This is the end of the line for Russia, they’ve done well but Croatia are too good, too highly motivated and too well organized to fall at this hurdle.

I think there are some betting options here. Personally, I’m going for a straight Croatia win at +125 with Bet365. Yes, I went for a straight Croatia win in their last game and got caught out but I don’t think Russia are as good as Denmark so I’m happy to go for this one again.

If you want to go for slightly longer odds then you can go for a Croatia win in the second half, I’m not averse to that and at +160 (Bet365) the odds have some real merit.

There is even the option of going for a handicap. I think Croatia could make this a good win and get themselves into good shape for the semifinal here and a 2-goal cushion in the second half would be a nice way of doing just that. At +470 it’s just the kind of option that’s brought me in lots of money in the past and although I’m not ready to go for it just yet, it is something I’m going to be monitoring.

The 2018 World Cup hosts have surprised us all so far but I think it’s a lot to ask of them to do it again in this one. It has been a World Cup of shocks and that has been expensive for bettors like myself, but perhaps this is where normality kicks in and we can start to build some profit.

Thanks for everything so far but “dos vidanya” Russia.

Check Out SBR's World Cup Page
