The first Copa America quarter-final sees Chile face Peru with the hosts heavy favorites, William Hill's Lee Phelps is looking at the odds for his free betting picks.

The hosts are still going strong and are second favorites to win their home Copa America having dumped Uruguay out in a hard-fought 1-0 win. They face Peru, who beat Bolivia in the easiest of the four quarter-finals.

The defensive strength of the hosts is the key thing in this semi-final, with three clean sheets out of four matches and only Mexico scoring against them in that uncharacteristic 3-3 draw. Anyone backing them to win to nil will be well in profit, with Ecuador, Bolivia and Uruguay all failing to register.

As we illustrated in our quarter final preview, Chile have been superb since beating Spain in Brazil and were unfortunate not to beat the hosts. They have won eight and drawn four of their 15 games.

They have got much better players than Peru with the likes of Claudio Bravo, Gary  Medel, Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez. If they are going to win the Copa, now is the time and they go into this with a very strong head-to-head with their opponents, winning 10 and drawing one of their last 15, including nine wins and a loss in the previous 10.

It won’t come easy to Chile though. Peru’s defence has been excellent throughout the tournament too, they almost held Brazil to nil, beat Venezuela by a single goals and held the Colombians to a score-less draw.

They play a counter-attacking style and are effective against bigger sides, so I’m expecting Chile to tread carefully here and a tight game.

I’m going against the trends though. Four of their last five matches against each other have featured three or more goals.

Soccer picks
I’m sticking with Chile here and probably by a solitary goal to nil. I’m going to also stick with Vidal to grab a penalty – he is priced at 2.62 (13/8). My main soccer pick is Chile to win and under 2.5 goals in the match at 2.9 (19/10).

Free soccer pick: Chile win and under 2.5 goals 2.9 (19/10).
