Copa America Group D draws to a close on Tuesday and we bring you choice soccer picks for the last group fixtures featuring tournament faves Argentina and defending champions Chile.

Recapping Group D, Round 2
Argentina continued their solid form in Copa America after opening their bid with a 2-1 win over defending champions Chile they served up a comprehensive 5-0 beat down over Panama. Chile, meanwhile, bounced back in the second round with a 2-1 win over Bolivia.

Argentina began the tournament as the top favourites to win outright and they remain so after two rounds of group fixtures (See Table 1). As it is, they have won Group D and a spot in the knockouts, so the last round is a mere formality. Defending champions Chile, however, are in a battle with Panama to secure a spot in the knockouts, and, fittingly, they collide in the last round to decide their Copa America fortunes.

Table 1: Group D Standings and Group D Betting Outrights and Tournament Outrights

Team Match Record Points Group D To Win Outrights To Win
Argentina 2-0-0 6 Winner -125
Chile 1-0-1 3   +900
Panama 1-0-1 3   +50000
Bolivia 0-0-2 0

Argentina vs. Bolivia
After the 5-0 drumming of Panama, this fixture doesn’t bear thinking about. One fears for Bolivia, don’t they with Argentina clearly rounding into form ahead of the last round of group play. Coming into the tournament, Bolivia were in awful form with just two wins in their last 13 fixtures and one draw. In World Cup qualification they are sat 9th in the table of ten with a 1-0-5 mark that includes a 2-0 loss to Argentina. There’s no doubt Argentina are the smart soccer pick to win this clash, but with soccer odds of -800 or thereabouts trading at the sports betting exchange value is going to be had elsewhere. Periphery markets to be exact with a slew of prop bets. Towards that end, we highlight a few to consider on your soccer betting tickets.

To begin with Argentina to win both the first half and second half is decent value at -187 soccer odds with Coral, BetVictor amongst several others. As well, an Argentina win and the ‘No’ for both teams to score is another way to approach this game with soccer odds at -150 with bet365. A win to nil by Argentina is on offers of -137 or thereabouts depending on your choice sportsbook and looks to be a good bet in our opinion. Finally, Lionel Messi is coming off a hat trick of goals against Panama and he’s trading at tempting -137 soccer odds to be the anytime goal scorer against Bolivia.

Soccer Picks:
Argentina to win half time/full time at -187
Argentina to win and ‘No’ both teams to score at -150
Argentina to win to nil -137
Lionel Messi to score anytime -137

Chile vs. Panama
This is the pivotal fixture in group D, set to decide the final spot in the quarterfinals. At the moment, Chile have the edge in the table thanks to a better goal differential and that will serve them very well should this final fixture result in a draw with Panama – an unlikely bet though it appears to be if the soccer odds were any indication. The draw is a long shot at against odds of +400 or thereabouts depending on your choice sports betting platform.

For several reasons Chile are the firm favourites to win in 90 minutes with soccer odds of -250 to -290. They are the defending champions, not to mention a better team on paper. There is no shame in losing to Argentina in the first round, they are after all one of the best teams in South America, if not the world. It was always going to be a tough ask for Chile to defeat a strong Argentina side. Importantly, they bounced back nicely with a good win over Bolivia to set themselves up for a concentrated bid to advance.

Panama will be desperate to give it all they’ve got. After all, they are still very much in it and have everything to play for. On that score it’s impossible to dismiss them out of hand – after all, Peru upset Brazil in the last lap, eliminated the Canaries out of the competition. Still, it’s a tough ask for Panama to serve up a similar upset, which is a bet trading at against odds of +800 or higher. So for our money, we’re backing Chile to win in 90 minutes at the fair price of -250.
