USA and Ecuador are set to get the Copa America quarterfinals on Thursday, we bring you our preview of the highly-anticipated clash with complete soccer picks.

USA Get It Done
USA got it done despite a slow start to the tournament to emerge as the improbable group A winners.

Things didn’t look all too promising when the USMNT succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Colombia in the group A opener. Indeed, their stock in Copa America outright betting markets plummeted forthwith as they propped up the table at the end of round 1, pointless and scoreless.

Chalk it to the trademark American resilience, that never-say-die attitude that is a real treat for fans and sports enthusiasts in general to savour, but Jurgen Klinsmann’s side rose to the occasion with a 4-0 drumming of Costa Rica that lifted them into second-place in the table at the conclusion of the second round, and, in turn, resurrected their Copa America campaign. Then, saving the best for last, they completed the come-from-behind run with a 1-0 win over Paraguay, and with some help from CONCACAF rivals Costa Rica, who upset Colombia 3-2, USA ended up winning the group thanks to a better goal differential.

Ecuador Undefeated
Ecuador put together an undefeated run in group B to finish in second-place. The main talking point of the section is the elimination of pre-tournament favourites Brazil (one of several top favourites to bet on in Copa America outright markets). Ecuador can take some credit for that surprising result, playing a part in Brazil’s untimely exit when they held the Canaries to a scoreless draw. Following that eyebrow raising account, they deposited a 2-2 draw with Peru and then a 4-0 drubbing over group minnows Haiti.

Ecuador are a solid team that currently leads CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying standings jointly with Uruguay. They are ranked 13th in FIFA rankings, but – if there were something that would take the shine off of them in soccer betting markets – it’s that they are making their first knockout appearance of their last three major tournaments.

In 2014 FIFA World Cup, they finished third in group play – the most notable result: holding France to a scoreless draw. In Copa America their pedigree leaves something to be desired. They have never won the competition and their best finish to date is fourth place, which they accomplished twice and as recently as 1993 when they hosted the event. In 2015 Copa America, Ecuador finished third in group play and, once again, failed to advance into the knockouts of a major tournament.

USA vs. Ecuador Match Betting Preview and Soccer Picks
In a perfect world a would-be matchup between group winners and group runners up should favour the former, pitting the notionally best team in one group against the so-called second-best team of the other group. In this particular case, it would be a grossly misleading thing to suggest that such an advantage exists. To begin with Ecuador rank higher than USA in FIFA rankings, with the former ranked 13th and the latter ranked 31st, and their head-to-head in six previous meetings is balanced enough with Ecuador winning one, drawing two and losing three. It’s worth noting none of these were competitive fixtures. All were friendlies including a friendly last month which USA won 1-0 in the lead up to Copa America.

Predictably, there is very little distinction between these two sides on the Copa America betting board. Where the distinction is being made is in the action coming down the wire with USA taking in 60% of the bets since markets opened.

Initially, Ecuador opened as the marginal favourites over USA: Ecuador opened as the +175 favourites with various sportsbooks while USA opened as the +185 soccer odds. That market outlook has held true with several sportsbooks, including Pinnacle, Heritage, Bet Cris and Bookmaker, to name a few. It’s worth noting these soccer odds are going to remain in constant flux up to kick-off and, importantly, the favouritism is barely quantifiable really.

However, in direct proportion to the soccer betting action pouring in, that outlook did change with several sportsbooks and the favouritism moved towards USA. Those instances include bet365 and William Hill, amongst several others. USA enter the match as the slightest favourites trading at +170 soccer odds with bet365 while Ecuador are matched a smidgen higher at +180 soccer odds. The draw is backed out to +210 soccer odds as a result.

Best Bets to Back on Your Soccer Picks:
By all accounts, this is expected to be a close match that could go either way. It doesn’t help that the market outlook isn’t unanimous across all sports betting platforms either. In some cases, home advantage gives USA a slight edge, not to mention the 1-0 win in their friendly meeting last month. In other cases Ecuador’s higher FIFA ranking which speaks to better quality nudges the South Americans ahead. In other words, it can be summed up so: Ecuador should win, but USA could win.

There’s an argument to be had about the draw in these kind of instances of a market being so closely called. The draw in 90 minutes is a tempting +210 soccer bet worth considering on your soccer picks.

Our approach for this game is going to be multi-faceted. We like the USA to win but we’re hedging our bets with a double chance bet as well on our soccer picks: USA or draw in 90 minutes, which is trading at -220 or thereabouts depending on your choice sportsbook. We also like the look of both teams to score given that the pair combined for 11 goals in their last two fixtures of group play. The ‘yes’ to both teams to score is available at EVEN money or thereabouts depending on your preferred bookmaker.
