Eight national teams are fighting for the trophy (Germany, Portugal, Russia, Chile, Mexico, Cameroon, Australia and Russia). The eight teams were drawn into two groups of four with the winners and the runner-ups of each group qualifying for the semi-finals.

Group A – Russia, Portugal, Mexico, New Zealand

Group B – Germany, Chile, Cameroon, Australia

Let’s analyze the four fixtures from the group stage round 1 and find the best value bets.

Russia vs. New Zealand

Russia, the hosts of the competition, qualified to the World Cup 2018 and Confederations Cup 2017 as hosts. Russia picked up just 1 point from a possible 9 at Euro 2016 and they will try to show that their performance was a mistake and their level is higher than that. All the players from their squad are coming from their domestic league, where the teams are paying great salaries. This tournament is really important for them is like a warm-up before next year’s big event. They look really solid and they should have enough to start the tournament with a win against New Zealand. They are coming after some positive results in their last four strong friendly matches and they are ready to fight Portugal and Mexico for a place in the semi-finals. This match will be the first meeting between these two national teams. New Zealand have qualified for the fourth time in this event losing eight of their nine previous fixtures in the competition. We expect Russia to dominate the game for our betting picks and win the three points.

Portugal vs. Mexico

This match is by far the most expected fixture of round 1. Euro 2016, Portugal, are starting this tournament with all their stars, including Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo. They’ve won six of their last seven games in all competitions and they are trying to maintain this great record. They are amongst the favorites to win the trophy and we expect them to qualify for the semi-finals from the 1st place. Mexico has scored in their last seven games being beaten in just one of their last 13 international fixtures. Mexico won the Confederations Cup on their turf in 1999, they have a talented squad, players with great skills that can make the difference. Both teams are capable of finding the back of the net, but we expect Portugal to start strong and win the three points in a match with goals.

Cameroon vs. Chile

Despite missing some of their key players, Cameroon were the surprise winners of the African Cup Of Nations back in January. They are coming to Russia to play their chance but it will be really tough for them to qualify from the group stage. Yes, they are a decent team when playing on their continent but when they exit and play an international tournament their performance is not the same. Chile is amongst the favorites. They have won Copa America twice in a row and they are one step away from the World Cup in Russia. Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez is expected to perform at his highest level and with the help of Bayern Munich’s Arturo Vidal and other important players to win their 1st Confederations Cup. They should easily qualify for the semi-final in they win against Cameroon and Australia. Cameroon will try to defend really good and to strike on the break but Chile has plenty of firepowers to get the job done and win this match.

Australia vs. Germany

Germany is the favorite to win the trophy being priced at +210 with 10bet. Coach Joachim Low has decided to rest some of his key players (Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller and Mesut Ozil, Jerome Boateng, Mario Gomez, Mats Hummels, Sami Khedira). But let’s not forget that “the B team” is as strong as “the A-team”. Manchester City’s Leroy Sane, PSG’s Julian Draxler or Leipzig’s Timo Werner are players that can go all the way and show to their coach how good they are. Australia is likely to have a defensive approach against the World Cup winners but it will be really tough for them to compete with Germany’s huge firepower. After their 2-0 defeat against France in the Euro 2016 semi-finals, Germany is unbeaten in their last 10 matches having won 8 of them.
