After a big day of top races, the action slows a bit Sunday. But don’t be fooled, the same opportunities on horse racing exist and we’re here to help.
Whew! Saturday was something with all the big races at Churchill Downs and Santa Anita. And while that was fun and entertaining, here is the deal. Whether you plopped down $2, $5, $20, or paper with a picture of Benjamin Franklin on it per race, today you can do exactly the same in looking to reach the desired result.
We are here to help and have horse racing picks from two tracks using 5Dimes‘ betting odds. Chances are you can view most if not all of these races on FS1 or NBCSN Sunday afternoon. Plus, this writer the last two days (Thursday and Friday) has 10 exact winners and 11 others that were on the board out of 12 races. Time to forge ahead!
Churchill Downs Race: 6
Post Time: 3:26 EDT
Surface: Turf Distance: 1 1/16 Miles
Morning Line Favorite at 5Dimes: #2 Sister Hanan
Backstretch News: This is the first of three races at Churchill with purses of $80,000 or more we are covering. In breaking down this oversized 18-horse field, very difficult to go against Sister Hanan, who’s Beyer Speed Figures are (88-84-82) vastly superior. From here, we’re calling for Sister Kitten to put woeful showing behind here, and trusting previous results are more indicative (53-78-80). Besides, we always like trainer M. Maker. Next on the ticket is Puca Penny, who is trending in the right direction at 66-75-77 speed numbers.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #2 Sister Hanan 2) #9 Sister Kitten 3) #6 Puca Penny
Longshot Pick: #10 Appealing Audrey (12-1 odds)
Santa Anita Race: 1
Post Time: 3:30 EDT
Surface: Turf Distance: 5 ½ Furlongs
Morning Line Favorite at 5Dimes: #7 Preaching Trainer
Backstretch News: For the opener in SoCal, looking elsewhere than the oddsmaker choice. Unbridled Ethos has numbers we’re looking for at 78-74-75 and a red-hot jockey in I. Ortiz Jr., who is 11-14-2 (W-P-S) in 37 rides. A Man’s Man is off a sharp 83-Beyer and will have one of the best jocks at Santa Anita in U. Rispoli. Lastly, well not last, you know what we mean, next is Jetovator, who put up a pair of 75 to attract our attention.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #3 Unbridled Ethos 2) #9 A Man’s Man 3) #5 Jetovator
Longshot Pick: #1 Raul Rosas (6-1)
Churchill Downs Race: 8
Post Time: 4:40 EDT
Surface: Dirt Distance: 6 ½ Furlongs
Morning Line Favorite at 5Dimes: #1 Charming Lady
Backstretch News: Charming Lady has the best horse racing odds in this race, but at 4-1, she is anything by a sure thing. Nonetheless, four horses appear the class in this skirmish with seven others chasing. That is why an exacta box might not be a bad bet to create options. CL has the most reliable speed (79-76-72). Club Car is a close second in that regard (80-69-76). But for the win it is 6-1 choice Dos Vinos, who has proven it can stand up (Beyer of 87 two races ago).
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #9 Dos Vinos 2) #5 Club Car 3) #1 Charming Lady
Longshot Pick: #2 Centerfold Angel (20-1)
Churchill Downs Race: 9
Post Time: 5:12 EDT
Surface: Turf Distance: 1 1/8 Miles
Morning Line Favorite at 5Dimes: #14 Eliade (FR)
Backstretch News: While out-of-towners Eliade (France) and Chaluer (Great Britain) are attracting attention, we need more proof before betting. At the bottom of our ticket is War Cabinet, who has the right amount of speed (85-78-85) and top jockey in J. Ortiz. One spot up is Mighty Scarlett, who is a versatile performer who can also go (87-84-82). For the victory, backing the duel entry of Mercilla and Clara Peeters, giving us two horses capable of winning.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #1/1A Mercilla/Clara Peeters 2) #11 Mighty Scarlett 3) #8 War Cabinet
Longshot Pick: #12 Angel of Mischief (12-1)
Santa Anita Race: 6
Post Time: 6:12 EDT
Surface: Turf Distance: 1 Mile
Morning Line Favorite at 5Dimes: #2 Red King
Backstretch News: A case could be made for any of eight horses would win this one-mile race on the sod. Only one has double-digit odds which explains the quality. For openers, Avalanche is the pick mostly because of two-speed numbers at 90-93 in the previous three outings, the best of the group. We’ll take favored Red King next, who is 4-0-3 in 10 starts at SAP. For third it is Fivestar Lynch, who can save time on the rail and has F. Prat, this places’ best rider.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #4 Avalanche 2) #2 Red King 3) #1 Fivestar Lynch
Longshot Pick: #5 Of Good Report (6-1)
Santa Anita Race: 8
Post Time: 7:18 EDT
Surface: Turf Distance: 1 Mile
Morning Line Favorite at 5Dimes: #1 Madman
Backstretch News: This sets up as another excellent race at SAP on the turf at eight furlongs. While there are upset contenders like are longshot pick, a trio seems the best in this one. Madman won earlier this year and just missed another with a listed speed figure of 86. Sharps like him even more with M. Smith aboard. Border Town and Irish Heatwave are nearly interchangeable, with BT getting the nod because of Prat in the saddle.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #1 Madman 2) #6 Border Town 3) #5 Irish Heatwave
Longshot Pick: #8 Mountain Spirit (10-1)
Back Thursday with more racing picks, Good Luck!
