When we started snooping around to write this article, we found three horse tracks that had big Sunday races, so we had to bring them all to you!
The original plan was to provide you free horse racing picks from Churchill and Belmont today. Churchill had races with good-sized purses and Belmont had a stakes race. Then we just thought let’s check out what Woodbine offered and what do you know, they have two races with purses over $120,000 and we thought one certainly was worth talking about!
You can check all the action on NBCSN and FS2. On Friday, this handicapper had seven exact or better winners and five more that cashed for followers, let’s do it again for you.
Woodbine Race: 6
Post Time: 3:43 EDT
Surface: All Weather Distance: 5 ½ Furlongs
Morning Line Favorite at Bookmaker: #2 Last American Exit
Backstretch News: Last American Exit and Bend in the River are the favorites and that primarily because they have the best last race Beyer Speed Figures. BitR had an 81, which seems quite high after a 53, but even the latter number makes this horse a contender and chances are something in the 60’s will be good enough to win. Plus #8 has the second-best jockey here. Racing in the Rain is off a superior workout and that is often a precursor of something big.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #8 Bend in the River 2) #1 Racing in the Rain 3) #2 Last American Exit
Longshot Pick: #4 Impressive Speed (6-1 odds)
Belmont Race: 5
Post Time: 3:27 EDT
Surface: Dirt Distance: 1 1/16 Miles
Morning Line Favorite at Bookmaker: #2 Walkoff
Backstretch News: Favored Walkoff is dead on closer and he won his last time out. One difference, not as much early in this race which could inhibit a strong finish, though he is 3-for-3 at Belmont. No doubt #2 is a threat, but we are listing him second. Armament deserves to be in this conversation off of a pair up 70’s Beyer’s. Our pick to win, Lil Commissioner, preferring his reliable style and numbers (83-74-81).
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #6 Lil Commissioner 2) #2 Walkoff 3) #7 Armament
Longshot Pick: #3 Mills (6-1)
Churchill Downs Race: 6
Post Time: 3:42 EDT
Surface: Turf Distance: 5 ½ Furlongs
Morning Line Favorite at Bookmaker: #7 Limnery and #9 First Wave
Backstretch News: There is a 75% chance of rain all afternoon at Churchill Downs which would probably move this to the main track. That makes this a really hard call. We are going to stick with the basics to figure this one out and will start with American Mandate, believing in his reliable speed (82-80-90) and jockey/trainer combination of R. Santana Jr. and S. Asmussen. The same holds true for our third pick, Limnery, with a strong combo of F. Geroux and B. Cox and having the right numbers (84-84-83). Shared Legacy could be a longshot surprise.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #6 American Mandate 2) #7 Limnery 3) #4 Shared Legacy
Longshot Pick: #4 Shared Legacy (10-1)
Churchill Downs Race: 7
Post Time: 4:14 EDT
Surface: Dirt Distance: 1 1/16 Miles
Morning Line Favorite at Bookmaker: #1 Top Speed
Backstretch News: Top Seed has run two fine races, has the No. 2 jockey in C. Lanerie and trainer that has cashed four straight at 2-1-1 (WPS). But we are looking elsewhere, actually, just to Top Seed’s right and selecting #2 Gun It. We bring up Santana Jr. and Ausmussen again the speed GI has is virtually the same. Next up is Rated R Superstar, who gets the nod over several, because his trainer is 4-4 (WP) in 13 attempts of late.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #2 Gun It 2) #1 Top Seed 3) #6 Rated R Superstar
Longshot Pick: #3 Franknjymme (10-1)
Churchill Downs Race: 8
Post Time: 4:46 EDT
Surface: Dirt Distance: 6 Furlongs
Morning Line Favorite at Bookmaker: #1 Risky Mandate
Backstretch News: The feature skirmish at CD has several horses that have done numerous good things recently. The favorite, Risky Mandate is a 5/2 choice and his trainer has been a money-machine at 7-2-3 (WPS) in the previous 19 tries. However, with the weather in question, stepping out of the comfort zone and backing a longshot Unique Factor, based on superb workout and liking No. 3 rider Geroux to muddle through. For place, it is Shanghai Tariff, who is 5-4-3 in 15 outings at this distance and on the dirt.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #8 Unique Factor 2) #4 Shanghai Tariff 3) #1 Risky Mandate
Longshot Pick: #8 Unique Factor (12-1)
Belmont Race: 8
Post Time: 5:14 EDT
Surface: Turf Distance: 7 Furlongs
Morning Line Favorite at Bookmaker: #1 Critical Value
Backstretch News: This is $100,000 Bouwerie Stakes for New York-bred 3-year-old females. Critical Value is a sharp 6/5 fave, she has the speed and is dependable (75-78-70), Toss in a couple of slick workouts and CV looks like the real deal. Ilchester Cheetah is not getting much love at 6/1 horse racing odds, yet, after a so-so showing, before that posted a pair of 76’s for speed. Risky Mischief could be just that, however, like the favorite, RM has posted two sterling workouts.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #1 Critical Value 2) #2 Ilchester Cheetah 3) #4 Risky Mischief
Longshot Pick: #2 Ilchester Cheetah (6-1)
See you back here next Thursday with more racing, Good Luck!
