We’ll examine tonight’s premier NHL game between Montreal and Los Angeles. Take the time to read this informative NHL betting preview article on this contest, and it culminates with a money line pick

Habs and the Kings at the Staples Center
The Los Angeles Kings host the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday at 10:35 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at Bookmaker, Los Angeles is a -150 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. This will be the second meeting of the season between these clubs. Montreal was a 6-2 blowout winner at home the first time they met way back on December 12th. The Kings won both games versus the Canadiens a season ago by scores of 2-1 and 6-0.

Tough Start to Road Trip
The Montreal Canadiens will be playing the third of a four game in six day road trip on the west coast. They’ve began the trip by losing each of the first two games by scores of 3-1 at Anaheim last night, and 4-0 at San Jose on Monday. Montreal entered this road swing having won four in a row, and was 24-9 in their last thirty-three games against the money line. Carey Price made his seventh consecutive start in goal for Montreal in last night’s loss to Anaheim. He’ll be given a much need night off on Thursday and will be replaced by backup Dustin Tokarski.

Starting to be Urgent
The Los Angeles Kings have been notorious in recent years of being adept at turning on the proverbial switch when urgency sets in. With their playoffs chances looming in the balance over the final nineteen regular season games, it’s a good time to contemplate flipping the switch. Currently the Kings are tied for third in the Pacific Division with the Calgary Flames. In order to automatically qualify for the playoffs they would have to finish third or better in the Pacific. Otherwise, they would have to earn a wild card berth. Going into today, both Winnipeg and Minnesota are ahead of the Kings in the wild card standings.

Final Analysis
This appears to be a very favorable spot tonight for the Kings. They’ll be facing a backup goaltender, and also an opponent playing their third road game in the last four nights. The defending Stanley Cup champions have also won six of their last seven at home, and by rights should be the more desperate team in this matchup. I like the home side in this game for one of my  NHL picks on Thursday

NHL Pick: Kings -150 on the money line over the Canadiens.
