This has definitely been an extremely unpredictable season. Can Newcastle rediscover their form and win the title? Will Brighton hold their nerve and gain automatic promotion after suffering the heartbreak of losing in the playoffs for three of the last four seasons? Or will unfancied Huddersfield defy the soccer odds and steal one of the two automatic spots from them? There are still also several clubs looking to break into the play-offs and as many as nine clubs involved in the battle to avoid relegation. With games once again coming thick and fast from now until the end of the season, this promises to be a fascinating run-in.

Aston Villa v Norwich City

Overall this has been a disappointing season for the Villains, who were expected to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking. A poor first half of the season has more or less put paid to this. However, since signing players of real quality in the January transfer window they’ve performed like one of the top sides in the EFL. With five wins from their last six games, including five clean sheets, they will be keen to keep the momentum going right to the end of the season, in preparation for a strong promotion push in 2018.

Two weeks ago Norwich changed their Manager after a poor run of form since the New Year. They won their first match under his stewardship last time out against struggling Barnsley, and now this match represents a big step up for them, especially given their poor form on the road with just one win in thirteen. Even thought the Villa win is huge at 2.50, we are mindful of the effect the new manager could have on boosting the Canaries’ fortunes. Therefore I'm taking Aston Villa Draw No Bet/0-0 AH for my soccer picks.

Preston North End v Nottingham Forest

Forest also changed their manager and they earned a home draw with big rivals Derby last time out. They currently sit just one point above the drop zone, so the pressure is firmly on them to get results. One of the reasons for their lowly position is their away form, which has been woeful all season; just two wins and a massive thirteen defeats (second worst in the EFL).

To have any chance of making the playoffs Preston will have to win their remaining home games, and given their excellent form at Deepdale you wouldn’t put it past them. They are unbeaten at home in their last six with five wins and one draw (two of these were convincing victories against sides in the top five - Brighton and Reading). Given their impressive home form we’re taking the Preston to win.

Rotherham United v Fulham

Rotherham could be relegated after this match. If they fail to take any points from this game and Blackburn pick up points at Brighton, then it will be official. In truth, Rotherham’s relegation has been a formality for some time now, as they prepare for next season in League One. They have lost a massive twenty-nine of their thirty-eight games overall in what has been a tough season. By contrast, in-form Fulham is looking like a team that can break into the playoff pack. This is largely due to their excellent away record (third best in the EFL) and their attractive brand of possession football. They’ve picked up three wins from their last five on the road, including an impressive 1-3 victory at high-flying Newcastle. This should be a routine win for the West London club, so we’re backing Fulham -1 AH.
