As match day 5 of the Champions League nears, we cast our eye on Tuesday’s 8-game serving and analyse each and every game while offering up choice soccer picks for winners on the day.

Barcelona -350 vs. Roma
Barcelona are riding high in Group E with a 3-1-0 mark and 10 points. They only need a point to advance into the knockout stages on Tuesday when they host Roma, second in Group E with a disappointing 1-2-1 mark. Given Blaugrana’s current run of form, underscored by a commanding 4-0 win over Real in the season’s first instalment of El Clasico, one has to consider they’re a solid bet to take all three points, which can be backed at -350 soccer odds at bet365.

BATE Borisov vs. Bayer Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen are sat in third place in Group E, merely a point behind Roma. BATE Borisov are fourth in the group, merely a point behind Bayer Leverkusen. As a result, there is everything to play for in this game and the outcome of this match could go a long way towards determining second place and the ensuing spot in the knockouts. (Top spot is practically sewed up by Barcelona). Bayer outplayed BATE on match day 1 when they beat them 4-1 at home. However, BATE raised some eyebrows when they defeated Roma 3-2 at home on match day 2. Although it remains their only win in the competition, it would be a big mistake to overlook the Belarusian side, particularly when Bayer are without a road win in the competition – losses to Barcelona (2-1) and Roma (3-2) make up their road accounts on the European front. As it is, the Bundesliga side are the heavy favorites at -143 soccer odds or thereabouts depending on your choice sportsbook, but we’re wondering whether such favoritism is really warranted. BATE have as much stake in the win as Bayer, but with home advantage they cut an intriguing figure on our soccer picks for the upset – be it behind a draw at +300 or the outright win at +425 soccer odds. Oh what they hey, let’s push the boat out on this one. BATE to win it is.

Zenit St. Petersburg vs. Valencia
Valencia take on Group H leaders Zenit St. Petersburg on Tuesday, all while the hosts are already qualified for the knockouts with a perfect 4-0-0 mark through four rounds of the group stage and 12 points. That’s not enough for coach Villas Boas though. He’s eyeing top spot for his lads with a game to spare, a feat that can be accomplished with as little as a draw in St. Petersburg on Tuesday. Valencia have bigger fish to fry. They need the win coupled with a loss or draw by Gent in the ensuing section’s match to progress into the R16. They’ll be motivated and raring to go, but the long trek to Russia’s equivalent of Venice, not to mention the freezing weather might put a damper on those ambitions. In fact, it’s somewhat surprising that Zenit St. Petersburg aren’t firmly favored in this game. At +110 soccer odds they are the favorites but the game isn’t exactly cornered in their camp. Those soccer odds are just too tempting to not tickle on our soccer picks.

Arsenal vs. Dinamo Zagreb
Arsenal’s fate is not in their hands. An awful start to their campaign in the first two rounds, coupled with disappointment (humiliation is another word that springs to mind) against Bayern Munich on match day 4 has put them firmly into the passenger’s seat. They can only hold up their end by winning their last two games and wait and see how the rest of the field stacks up when all is said and done. With a Group F comeback on their minds and a 2-1 loss to Dinamo Zagreb at the back of their minds, the Gunners really must win this game at the Emirates. The soccer odds are rather pricey given their 1-0-3 account in Europe’s top flight club competition, but they are second in Premier League’s form table right now with a 4-1-1 mark in their last six games, comprised of a 2-1-0 mark at home.

Bayern Munich vs. Olympiakos
Bayern Munich and Olympiakos are level on 9 point in Group F, but the German outfit have the edge on goal differential. This is a must-win game for the Bundesliga darlings if they hope to clinch top spot in their section. Does anybody dare bet against Bayern Munich on their soccer picks?

FC Porto vs. Dynamo Kyev
FC Porto lead group G with a 3-1-0 mark and 10 points. A win over Dynamo Kyev is pivotal towards deciding top spot and advancement into the knockouts. FC Porto settled on a 2-2 draw on match day 1 in the Ukrainian capital – to date the only match in which they leaked any points. Since then they beat Chelsea 2-1 and Maccabi Tel-Aviv 2-0 at home and 3-1 on the road. FC Porto need but a point from this game to advance, but they’re sure to go for all three points. Dynamo Kyev aren’t a side to underestimate. They are sat two points behind Chelsea and a win over FC Porto coupled with a loss by Chelsea in Tel- Aviv could see them leapfrog into second place. [Insert dramatic shiver]. Can the Ukrainians serve up the upset on the road? More likely, no.

Lyon vs. Gent
Group H can play out a few ways: if Lyon win their home game against Gent and Valencia lose in St. Petersburg their campaign remains alive. Gent, however, will clinch at least third place if they win or draw in Lyon. Surprisingly, Lyon are favored at -138 soccer odds despite propping up Group H with just one point. Gent are in the driver’s seat as far as this pairing goes with a three-point edge and third place within grasp. Home advantage could play a factor for Lyon, but the Belgians aren’t to be taken lightly. Certainly, not as lightly as their soccer odds of +425 would suggest.  It’s also worth pointing out that three points for Gent could see them into second place if Zenit beat Valencia.

Free Soccer Pick: Gent +425 at Bet365

Maccabbi Tel Aviv vs. Chelsea
Chelsea’s woes in domestic action aren’t expected to materialise in this clash, if the soccer odds were any indication. They are massive favorites at -275 to win outright over Maccabi Tel-Aviv. Those soccer odds are hardly representative of the Blues this season though. Smacking of generosity and optimism. Chelsea barely edged Norwich City at the weekend in a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge. Now they are making the long trek to Israel for a pivotal game they need to win if they hope to keep their campaign alive. Chelsea are 2-1-1 in the competition with their only wins coming at Stamford Bridge. On the road they lost to FC Porto 2-1 and settled on a scoreless draw against Dynamo Kyiv. The Israeli side may be down and out, pointless in the competition. But the opportunity to play spoiler must be tempting, if not the outright upset at +1000 soccer odds then handing the Blues a draw at +400 soccer odds.
