Your Humble Handicapper sees money to be won when Paris St-Germain take on Chelsea in the Champions League. You can share in his winning ways if you follow these top soccer tips too.

Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho is still on track to become the first football manager to win the competition with three different clubs after a comfortable last-16 win against Galatasaray, but PSG will be no walkover. Despite their home and away defeats against Basel, Chelsea progressed from the Champions League Group stage as Group E winners by beating Schalke and Steaua Bucharest in all of their other four matches. France’s Paris St-Germain cruised through their group stages and last 16 matches, and sit very comfortably in their second successive Champions League quarter-final, but Chelsea are on top of the EPL.

Before we get too enthusiastic about the EPL leaders I should mention that PSG’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the competition’s second best scorer with 10 goals. And before anyone says anything about Chelsea progressing, it is upfront that PSG will win this encounter (if they do) as they have Edinson Cavani with Ibrahimovic, up front who have scored 61 goals between them in all competitions this season.

Enough with maybe goals…WHERE’S THE MONEY MIKE?
The last time these sides met was a mere club friendly back in July 2012 and that game ended 1-1. The odds on their first encounter ending by the same scoreline are 6/1 with the sports books. You should know that the first leg (to be played in Paris, France) has the basics at PSG to win at 11/10 a draw is at 5/2 and a Chelsea win is at 3/1. The bookies seem to prefer the home side in the first leg as they like 1-0, 0-0, 2-1 and 2-0 before they entertain a Chelsea victory; 1-0 at 17/2.

Also The London blues are 5/6 to qualify past PSG while the French side are 10/11.

Stat Attack
At time of press PSG are undefeated in their last five while Chelsea have an embarrassing 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa spoiling their current run, four wins and one defeat in their last five.

Chelsea are 4/1 to reach the final and PSG are 9/2, but you might also be interested to know that Chelsea are at best soccer odds of 66/1 to be the highest scoring team in the Champions League while PSG are 14/1. Make of that what you will. What your Humble Handicapper makes of it is Chelsea are not going to score like they did against Arsenal against the cream of Europe.

If you think that home league form is something to go on you should know that France’s reigning champions are 11 points clear of Monaco (after they edged past Les Merlus 1-0in the Stade du Moustoir last Friday). Chelsea, are sitting pretty on top of the EPL after their 6-0 demolition of Arsenal (in Arsene Wenger’s 100th game in charge) but Man City have the all-important games in hand in hand and Jose Mourinho is forever playing down their title chances.

But according to the bookies Chelsea are 14/1 (fifth favourite) to win the Champions League this term while PSG are 12/1 (fourth favourite). Both are long shots, but as one or the other will be in the next round, it’s a good time to back a dark horse.

Prediction: Chelsea sneak through.
