CFL underdogs continue to cover against the spread at a high rate with a 10-2 record ATS through the first three weeks. came up short on both of my picks last week following a fast start of my own, but this week’s schedule offers some great matchups to get back to my winning ways.

Week 4 of the CFL regular season offers up four inter-division tilts and a great opportunity to take full advantage of the West Division’s dominance over the East the past few seasons. I have broken things down to my top two picks that can be paired together for this week’s free CFL parlay pick based on betting odds from two of SBR's top sportsbooks

Calgary Stampeders At Montreal Alouettes (+6, 52.5)

Calgary is starting to look like the team that won 15 regular-season games last year on its way to the Grey Cup title game. It hammered Winnipeg 29-10 last week on the road as a 3.5-point favorite and, over the course of the first three games, this offense has averaged 34.3 points. Bo Levi Mitchell has connected with Kamar Jorden 14 times for 240 yards and four touchdowns in the passing game, and Jerome Messam is third in the CFL in rushing with 187 yards.

The Alouettes started the new season with a tight 17-16 victory against Saskatchewan as 7-point home favorites, but over the past two weeks they are starting to look like more like the team that won seven games last season to miss the playoffs. Montreal still has a solid defense that has held opponents to an average of 20.7 points per game, but the fact that this offense has not been able to cross the 20-point mark in any of its first three games is too hard to ignore against a power like Calgary.

  • The Stampeders are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games following a SU win and the total has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in 14 of their last 19 road games.
  • The Alouettes have gone 3-11 ATS in their last 14 home games and the total has stayed UNDER in nine of their last 11 home games closing as underdogs.
  • Montreal has covered ATS in the last five meetings against Calgary and it has a slight 3-2 edge SU. The total has stayed UNDER in the last six games in this inter-division clash.

Covering 6 points on the road in any CFL matchup can be tough to do, but I have the Stampeders significantly ahead of Montreal on both sides of the ball right now. Calgary would have to be my pick in this one both SU and ATS.

British Columbia Lions At Hamilton Tiger-Cats (+3, 50)

BC opened its season with a disappointing 30-27 loss to Edmonton as a 4-point home favorite, but it has feasted on the East the past two weeks with road victories against Toronto and Montreal. What I really like about the Lions on the offensive side of the ball is the balance between the pass and the run under the guidance of quarterback Jonathan Jennings. He has passed for 853 yards while adding another 87 on the ground. Jeremiah Johnson is the team’s leading rusher with 196 yards on 35 carries.

The Tiger-Cats head into their home opener at 0-2 both SU and ATS after suffering road losses to Toronto in Week 1 and to Saskatchewan last week in a 37-20 setback as slight 1-point favorites. Last Saturday night, the passing offense under Zach Collaros was held to 189 yards through air and Hamilton only gained 27 yards on the ground. On defense, the Tiger-Cats gave up 380 yards through the air and 94 yards on the ground.

  • The Lions have covered ATS in 12 of their last 16 games on the road and the total has stayed UNDER in six of their last eight road games.
  • The Tiger-Cats are 0-5-1 ATS in their last six home games when closing as underdogs and the total has stayed UNDER in their last six games as home underdogs.
  • Head-to-head in this inter-division matchup, BC has covered the spread in five of the last six meetings and the total has stayed UNDER in six of the last eight meetings between the two.

I have to lean towards the West again in this inter-division matchup given the gaps that exist between BC and Hamilton right now. The Lions have looked sharp on the road so far, and I see that continuing on Saturday night with the victory both SU and ATS.
