There is a full slate of games in Week 3 of the new CFL season highlighted by Saturday’s West Division tilt between the British Columbia Lions and the Calgary Stampeders at 7 p.m. (ET).

British Columbia Lions at Calgary Stampeders

Saturday, June 29, 2019 - 07:00 PM EDT

Free Pick: OVER 52.5 points

Best Line Offered: 5Dimes

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3805084, "sportsbooksIds":[19,169,1096,999996,1602], "LineTypeId":3, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

The BC Lions Look for Their First Victory of the Season in a Tough Place to Get a Win

The hype surrounding Mike Reilly’s return to BC as their starting quarterback has quickly turned to panic with the team’s 0-2 start both straight-up and against the spread. Calgary is coming off an early bye after getting stunned at home by Ottawa in its season opener.

BC comes into this West Division battle with something to prove after getting outscored a combined 72-46 in its first two games. After coming up short in 33-23 loss to Winnipeg as home as slight one-point underdogs, the Lions got pushed around by Edmonton last Friday in a 39-23 loss as three-point road underdogs. The total went OVER the closing total line in each of those games. Reilly has struggled with his accuracy in those first two starts with a shaky 54.5 completion percentage. He has tossed two touchdowns against three interceptions.

The road has not been kind to BC in recent games with a SU 3-14 record in its last 17 road games. It has failed to cover in four of its last five outings on the road. Overall, the total has gone OVER in four of the Lions last six games. The 72 points allowed is the most of any CFL team that has two games under its belt

The Stampeders have been the Gold Standard in the CFL the past three seasons with three trips to the Grey Cup title game and a league title in 2018. Offseason player movement has created more than a few holes on each side of the ball, so Calgary will have to prove that it is still the team to beat. Bo Levi Mitchell remains the team’s best player at quarterback and he threw for 275 yards and one score verse one interception in that 32-28 Week 1 loss to Ottawa. Juwan Brescacin was his top target with four receptions for 68 yards.

Even with the SU loss at home in Week 1, Calgary is still a healthy 20-5 SU in its last 25 games at McMahon Stadium. The total has stayed UNDER in eight of their last 12 home games. The Stampeders have won 15 of their last 21 games SU.

Head-to-Head Betting Trends

Calgary has won seven of the last eight meetings against the Lions SU and the total has stayed UNDER in the last five games in this divisional matchup.

Free Betting Pick

BC’s offense is not as bad as it has looked in its first two games and I do see Reilly playing better as well. The real concern is the Lions’ defense trying to slow down the Stampeders for all four quarters. In the end, Calgary gets the SU win and the total goes over 52.5 points.

CFL ‘Best Bet’ Record: 2-0

Other CFL Week 3 Games:

Edmonton at Winnipeg (-4.5)
Thursday, June 27 08:30 PM EDT
Total Line: 58

I was tempted to stick with Edmonton coming off last week’s win, but the better way to go in this one is the OVER despite the inflated total line.
