The race to the playoffs in the CFL is officially underway with the start of the second half of the season over the Labor Day Holiday. This week’s slate is a good one with the backend of three home-and-home series between division foes that could have an impact on the postseason picture.

Last week’s parlay got off to a hot start with Ottawa beating Montreal 19-14 as a 2.5-point road favorite.  I went with Winnipeg as a four-point road favorite in my second game and it came up one point short in a 28-25 win against Saskatchewan. Here is this week’s two-team CFL parlay based on the betting lines at BetOnline, which is the top online sportsbook for football north of the border in my book.

Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Pointspread: Winnipeg -8
Total Line: 52.5

Betting Preview
The Roughriders have been able to play both Edmonton and Winnipeg tough in their last two games to cover against the spread, but this team has completely forgotten how to win games. Even with Darian Durant lighting up the Blue Bombers’ secondary for 399 passing yards on 36 completions to help rally his team from a large deficit, Saskatchewan’s defense could not find a way to make a crucial stop when it needed to the most.

Winnipeg extended its current straight-up winning streak to five games, but after closing as an underdog in the first four victories, it failed to cover in this game as a favorite for just the second time this season. Matt Nichols continues to be unstoppable at quarterback during the Blue Bombers’ current run and this past Sunday he completed 27-of-39 passes for 341 yards and a touchdown.

Betting Trends
The Roughriders are 6-15-1 ATS in their last 22 West Division games and they are 2-7 ATS in their last nine games against a team with an SU winning record. The total has gone OVER in five of their last seven games on the road.

The Blue Bombers have failed to cover in four of their last five division games and they are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with an SU losing record. The total has stayed UNDER in nine of their last 12 home games.

Head-to-head in this West Division clash, Winnipeg has won three of the last four meetings SU and the total has gone OVER in five of the last six meetings.

Betting Prediction
The total line for this game has once again been set at 52.5 points despite the change in venue. I happen to feel that both these teams will once again be able to score enough combined points to take this game OVER 52.5 points this Saturday afternoon in Winnipeg. I suggest the over for your pick, now you only need to select your sportsbook of choice.

Calgary Stampeders vs. Edmonton Eskimos
Pointspread: Calgary -2.5
Total Line: 55

Betting Preview
Calgary has clearly established itself as the team to beat in the West this season and we could be seeing a changing of the guard in this bitter division rivalry with last week’s dominating 45-24 victory against Edmonton. The Stampeders easily covered as 6.5-point home favorites and they have now run their current SU winning streak to seven games while going 6-1 ATS. The combination of quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell through the air and running back Jerome Messam on the ground packs a powerful one-two punch.

The Eskimos had some momentum going with a three-game winning streak (SU and ATS) heading into last week’s matchup, but Sunday’s loss was a huge step backward. Mike Reilly leads the CFL in both passing yards (3,315) and passing touchdowns (17) on an offense that is averaging 29.6 points a game. Unfortunately, he finds himself trying to keep pace with an Eskimos’ defense that is giving up just as many points.

Betting Trends
The Stampeders are 5-0 ATS in their last five games following an SU win and they are 4-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their last five games following an SU win.

The Eskimos are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games following an SU loss and they are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against a team with an SU winning record. The total has gone OVER in eight of their last 11 home games.

Calgary is 9-3 ATS in its last 12 road games against Edmonton and it has an 11-4 edge ATS in the last 15 meetings overall. The total has gone OVER in four of the last seven meetings.

Betting Prediction
Edmonton should put forth a better effort this week at home, but I still think its defense is going to struggle to keep the Stampeders out of the end zone. This sets the stage for another CFL pick on the total line in this week’s parlay with the play on the OVER, which odds board has at 53.
