Each of these West Division rivals are expected to compete with Calgary for the top spot in the standings to add even more excitement to this opening day clash.

Winnipeg went 10-8 straight-up last season to finish third in West Division. The Blue Bombers got past Saskatchewan 23-18 in the opening round of the playoffs as two-point road favorites before coming up short against Calgary 22-14 as 4.5-point road underdogs in the West Division finals. The Blue Bombers won six of their final eight games last year both SU and against the spread. The total stayed UNDER in four of their last five outings.

Behind Matt Nichols at quarterback, Winnipeg was the highest scoring team in the CFL in 2018 with an average of 30.6 points per game. Nichols threw for the fifth-most yards in the league (3,146) in just 14 starts. He tossed 18 touchdowns against 13 interceptions. Backup Chris Streveler added another 1,134 yards passing to the team total while throwing 11 touchdowns with five picks.

The Lions earned a crossover spot in last year’s playoffs after posting a SU record of 9-9 to finish fourth. They went on to face the East’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the first round, but bowed-out in a 48-8 loss as 2.5-point road underdogs. The Lions failed to cover the closing spread in five of their last seven games with the total staying UNDER or ended as a PUSH in five of those seven games.

In the biggest offseason move in the CFL, former Edmonton quarterback Mike Reilly returned to BC after starting his career with the Lions in 2011. He has been the league’s most prolific passer the past three seasons with at least 5,500 yards throwing the ball. After throwing for 5,830 yards in 2017 with 30 touchdowns, he ended last season with 5,562 passing yards while matching those 30 passes for scores.

Head-to-Head Betting Trends

The Lions have won seven of their last 10 home games against Winnipeg SU, but...

The Blue Bombers have a 4-1 edge ATS in the last five meetings at BC Place.

The total has gone OVER in four of those last five matchups.

Free Betting Pick

The excitement of opening day for each of these teams should translate to enough big plays to take the total in this game OVER the current 52-point line.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Global additions set to make history in Week 1 @CFL https://t.co/AJVXy6sa90 #CFL
— CFL News (@CFL_News) 11 de junho de 2019
\n"}[/]

Other CFL Week 1 Games:

Saskatchewan at Hamilton -2.5 Total Line:47.5 (7:30 p.m.)
Thursday, June 13

This should be a great opening day matchup between two teams with higher expectations than last season’s results in the playoffs. The home field edge holds in this inter-division clash with the Tiger-Cats covering the 2.5 points.

Montreal at Edmonton -10 Total Line:51.5 (9 p.m.)
Friday, June 14

Giving up 10 points in a Week 1 game is a risky play no matter how bleak the outlook for Montreal may be this season. The best way to go in this one is the UNDER on the total line.

Ottawa at Calgary -7.5 Total Line:52 (7 p.m.)
Saturday, June 15

There is going to be quite a few new faces on the field for each of these teams that did not play in last season’s title game. I would stick with the RedBlacks and the 7.5 points in a game they should be able to keep closer than a touchdown.
