I cashed in a winning ticket in last week’s CFL two-team parlay by going against Edmonton and Calgary as two of the top power teams in the West Division. I decided to use each team again this week in my parlay pick, but I am mixing things up with a play on the total line this time around.

The Roughriders are 3-4 straight-up with a 4-3 record against the spread coming off last week’s bye. They have had their issues on the road this season at 0-3 SU (1-2 ATS) heading into the first meeting of the year against the Eskimos. Saskatchewan will need another big game from quarterback Kevin Glenn to end this skid on the road. He lit up British Columbia his last time out with 320 yards passing and three touchdown throws.

Edmonton will be looking to quickly rebound from last week’s stunning 33-26 loss to Winnipeg as a slight one-point road favorite. It was the Eskimos’ first SU loss of the season against seven earlier victories, but they are still just 3-5 ATS. Mike Reilly did not have his best day passing the ball in that loss, but on the year he is ranked third in the CFL in total passing yards (2,685) and second in passing touchdowns (15).

Betting Trends
  • The Roughriders are 8-17 ATS in their last 25 games against a team with a SU winning record and the total has gone OVER in four of their last five Friday games.
  • The Eskimos are 12-4 ATS in their last 16 games following a SU loss and the total has gone OVER in four of their last five games.
  • Head-to-head in this West Division clash, Edmonton has won five of the last six meetings SU and the total has gone OVER in three of the last four games.

Betting Prediction

I like Edmonton’s chances to bounce back quickly to cover at home, but my ‘best bet’ in the front end of this week’s parlay is the OVER on the current 54-point total line with both teams putting up some points this Friday night.

Toronto Argonauts at Calgary StampedersBetting Preview

With Ricky Ray back under center after missing some time with a shoulder injury, the Argonauts showed a spark on offense in last week’s convincing 38-6 victory against Montreal as slight 1.5-point home favorites. They are now 4-5 SU on the year with a 3-6 record ATS. Ray ended that game with 377 yards passing and four scoring strikes while completing 35 of his 43 passing attempts. He is now ranked second in the CFL in passing yards with 2,798.

Calgary closed the gap with Edmonton for the top spot in the West Division with last week’s 21-17 victory against British Columbia in a game that ended as a PUSH. The Stampeders are now 6-1-1 SU with a 4-3-1 record ATS. The total stayed UNDER 56 points in that game after going OVER in five of their first seven games this season. Bo Levi Mitchell did not have his best day under center with a lowly 48.4 completion percentage on 31 passing attempts, but it is rare that he turns in two sub-par performances in a row.

Betting Trends
  • The Argonauts are 1-9 ATS in their last 10 road games and the total has gone OVER in four of their last five games against a team with a SU winning record.
  • The Stampeders are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games against a team with a SU losing record and the total has gone OVER in seven of their last 10 games overall.
  • Toronto has a 5-1 edge ATS in its last six road games against Calgary. The total has gone OVER in two of the last three meetings including the Stampeders’ 41-24 victory against the Argonauts on Aug. 3 as six-point road favorites.
Betting Prediction

Calgary is on a roll but I am still not a big fan of laying 10 points in this game. What I do like is another play on the total with both teams scoring enough points to take things OVER the current 55-point line.
