The Calgary Stampeders continue to establish themselves as the team to beat in the CFL this season with a straight-up 11 game winning streak, but the defending champion Edmonton Eskimos proved that it will not go down without a fight following a key win last week. Over in the East, Ottawa is leading that division with a .500 record, below is our CFL pick for this week's parlay.

Last week’s CFL two-team parlay was a winner at the betting window with Calgary covering on the road and British Columbia winning both SU and against the spread at home. After breaking down the Week 16 CFL games based on the best sportsbooks betting lines, the following are my top two selections for a parlay play.

Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Ottawa RedBlacksBetting Preview

Do not look now but the Roughriders have won their last two games SU while covering against the spread in their last five outings. They are well-rested coming into this game off a bye and looking for the season sweep in this two-game inter-division clash. The main takeaway from Saskatchewan’s last three games is a much-improved defense that has allowed an average of just 19.3 points as opposed to a season average of 31.2 points allowed.

Ottawa still holds a game and a half lead over Hamilton in the East Division title race, but at 6-6-1 SU on the year, it has just two wins (both SU and ATS) in its last six games. Going back to an earlier loss to Saskatchewan in late July, the RedBlacks are 1-4 SU against the West Division with a costly 0-5 record ATS. Over the course of these five games, the RedBlacks have given up an average of 33.4 points a game as opposed to a season average of 27.3 points.

Betting Trends

The Roughriders are 5-14-1 ATS in their last 20 road games and the total has stayed UNDER in six of their last seven games following an SU win.

The RedBlacks are 1-5 ATS in their last six home games and the total has stayed UNDER in their last six games following an SU loss.

Head-to-head in this inter-division clash, Saskatchewan has a slight 3-2 edge SU following a 30-29 victory on July 22 as a six-point home underdog. The total went OVER 54 in that game and it has gone OVER in four of the five games.

Betting Prediction

Saskatchewan has shown some signs of life in those two SU wins and five straight covers and right now I would probably take any team in the West getting points against a team from the East as my CFL pick, given the wide disparity of overall talent between the two divisions.

British Columbia Lions vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Betting Preview

The Lions outpaced Ottawa 40-33 last week as five-point home favorites to hold onto second place in the West at 9-4 SU with a profitable 10-3 record ATS. Jonathon Jennings completed 80 percent of his 25 passing attempts for 348 yards and three touchdown throws, but there has to be some concern with a defensive secondary that gave up 485 passing yards to RedBlacks’ quarterback Trevor Harris. BC is averaging 29.3 points a game and allowing an average of 25.6 points on defense.

The Blue Bombers have lost two straight division games to Calgary on the road and Edmonton at home following an impressive SU seven-game winning streak while going 5-2 ATS. This defense has surrendered a total of 105 points in its last three games after holding opponents to an average of just 17.3 points in the first six wins of that recent run. Matt Nichols turned in a solid performance in last week’s 40-26 loss to the Eskimos with 330 yards passing and two scoring strikes, but Winnipeg had no answer for stopping Edmonton quarterback Mike Reilly, who added another 355 passing yards to his league-high 4,708 yards on the year.

Betting Trends

The Lions have covered the spread in seven of their last nine October games and the total has stayed UNDER in five of their last seven division games.

The Blue Bombers are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games against a team with an SU winning record and the total has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in 12 of their last 15 home games.

BC is just 1-3-1 ATS in the last five meetings and it has failed to cover in five of its last six road games against Winnipeg. The total has stayed UNDER in 17 of the last 23 meetings.

 Betting Prediction

Both teams come into this game with recent betting trends favoring the UNDER across the board  and things have gone that way in the majority of the last several matchups, but I am taking the over on the total this time around. Both teams still know how to put points on the board and I believe that will be the case this Saturday afternoon in Winnipeg.
