The 2017 CFL regular season is set to get underway this week with some really intriguing matchups on the slate including heated rivalries in each division. Each and every week of the CFL season I will be breaking down all the games to come up with a winning two-team parlay with 200%+ return!

Pointspread: BC-3

Total Line: 58

Betting Preview

The Eskimos finished fourth in the West Division last season with a straight-up record of 10-8 (9-9 against the spread) and they made it all the way to the Division Finals in the East as a crossover playoff team. While Edmonton’s defense was a bit suspect last season with a points-allowed average of 27.6, it did light things up on the other side of the ball behind quarterback Mike Reilly. He led the CFL in passing with 5,554 total yards while completing over 70 percent of his throws.

BC’s run at the 2016 Grey Cup title ended with a lopsided 42-15 loss to Calgary in the West Division Final after going 12-6 SU (13-5 ATS) in the regular season. The Lions were another potent offense with an average of 30.3 points per game with Jonathon Jennings under center. He threw for 5,226 yards and 27 touchdowns in 2016, but he also was at the top of the list in interceptions with 15. Free agent wide receiver Chris Williams came over from Ottawa to add another big target to the mix.

Betting Trends

-The Eskimos are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games played in Week 1 and the total has gone OVER in seven of their last nine games played on Saturday.

-The Lions have covered in six of their last eight games when closing as favorites and the total has gone OVER in five of their last six home games.

-Head-to-head in this West Division tilt, the home team has won the last six meetings SU. BC has a 5-1 edge ATS in its last six home games against Edmonton and the total stayed UNDER in both meetings last season.

Betting Prediction

This could be the most exciting Week 1 matchup on the board and while I like the Lions both SU and ATS at home, I am going with the OVER 58 on the total line as my top play with both teams lighting up the scoreboard.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Toronto Argonauts

Pointspread: Hamilton -3.5

Total Line: 54

Betting Preview

The Tiger-Cats only won seven games in 2016, but that was good enough for second place in the watered-down East Division. They went 6-12 ATS overall, but still managed to post a 5-3 record ATS in division play. Optimism is running high for bigger and better things in 2017 with a healthy Zach Collaros back under center. He missed eight games last season due to various injuries and finished the year with 2,938 passing yards and 18 touchdown passes while completing 66.9 percent of his throws.

Toronto was a playoff team in 2015 with a 10-win season, but that number got cut in half last year on the way to bringing up the rear in the East Division at 5-13. It also went 5-13 ATS as the most costly betting team in the CFL. The Argonauts are still relying on Ricky Ray to stay healthy for an entire season at quarterback, but the bigger concern is the loss of both Kenny Shaw and Diontae Spencer as free agents at the wide receiver position.

Betting Trends

-The Tiger-Cats have failed to cover in their last six games when closing as favorites and the total has stayed UNDER in 13 of their last 18 season openers.

-The Argonauts are 0-6 ATS in their last six games as underdogs and the total has stayed UNDER in 11 of their last 14 games in Week 1 of the regular season.

-Hamilton has covered ATS in eight of its last nine games against Toronto overall and it has a 6-1 edge ATS in its last seven road games against its East Division rival. The total has gone OVER or ended as PUSH in the last six meetings in Toronto.

Betting Prediction

It is hard to tell if Hamilton will be any better this season, but I am going to make an educated guess that Toronto could be even worse. Lay the points and take the Tiger-Cats on the road both SU and ATS in the backend of this week’s CFL parlay.
