Calgary bettors are banking on the third time being the charm in Sunday’s CFL Grey Cup.

Ottawa won the East Division this season with a straight-up record of 11-7. The RedBlacks went on to rout Hamilton 46-27 in Sunday’s division final as 3.5-point home favorite. Calgary won its third-straight West Division title at 13-5 and it punched its ticket to a third-straight Grey Cup title game with a 22-14 victory at home against Winnipeg in the West Division Finals as a 4.5-point favorite.

Betting Overview

Ottawa’s path to its third Grey Cup Championship in four seasons took some twists and turns along the way. Early in the season it lost a home-and-home series against Calgary both SU and against the spread with each game staying Under the closing line. At one stretch, the RedBlacks lost four of six games (SU and ATS) before closing out the regular season with a three-game winning streak SU and ATS. The total went OVER 54 points in Sunday’s win after staying UNDER in four of Ottawa’s previous six games.

Trevor Harris threw for the fourth-most yards in the CFL this season with 5,116 total passing yards and he tossed 22 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. He did struggle with consistency at times, but saving his best for last, Harris set a new CFL playoff record with six touchdown throws in Sunday’s win against the Tiger-Cats. Greg Ellingson was his top target in that game with eight receptions for 144 yards and a score.

The Stampeders have posted the best record in the CFL regular season in each of the last three years, but it has come up short as favorites in the last two championships starting with a wild 39-33 loss to Ottawa in 2016 as heavy 9.5-point favorites. Calgary failed to cover in six of their last nine games this season and it lost three of its last four games SU. The total stayed UNDER 53 points against Winnipeg and it has stayed UNDER in five of its last six games.

Bo Levi Mitchell started all 18 games at quarterback for Calgary and he was third on the list in passing with 5,124 total yards. He led the league in touchdown throws with 35 against 14 interceptions. He tossed three more scores in Sunday’s win with Eric Rogers on the receiving end of all three of those scoring strikes. Mitchell completed just 54.8 percent of his 31 passing attempts for 214 yards in the winning cause.

Head-to-Head Betting Trends

Calgary has won six of the last 10 meetings with two of those games ending as a SU tie. The Stampeders have a slight 6-4 edge against Ottawa covering the spread and the total went Over in seven of the 10 meetings.

Betting Prediction

This should be a great matchup between the top two teams in the CFL this season. Ottawa might have the slight edge in momentum giving its playing form over the past month or so, but the clear edge in motivation has to lie with Calgary given the level of disappointment in losing the Grey Cup two years in a row as a clear favorite. I had the spread opening a bit wider for this matchup, so I will lay the four points that the Stampeders complete the mission this season with a victory on Sunday SU and ATS.
