Betting against Calgary as the top team in the West down the stretch has been a profitable venture given its 2-5 record against the spread in its last five games, while both Saskatchewan and British Columbia build momentum in that division playoff race. Ottawa and Hamilton clash for the second time in two weeks to decide the East.

The backend of a home-and-home series between Ottawa and Hamilton will go along way towards clearing up the postseason picture in the East Division race. I have turned my attention to Saturday’s showdown at 4 p.m. in Hamilton as far as the betting odds at 5Dimes sportsbook on the total line.

Betting Overview

Free Pick: OVER 54.5 points

Best Line Offered: 5Dimes

Ottawa has been a tough team to handicap all season long with no more than two wins or two losses in a row either straight-up or ATS. At 9-7 SU with a 7-9 record ATS, it is one win away from clinching the East Division. The RedBlacks closed as slight 1.5-point home underdogs in the first game in this home-and-home and got the job done with a wild 35-31 victory that went well OVER the closing 54.5-point line. They also beat the Tiger-Cats 21-15 as six-point road underdogs on July 28 in a game that stayed UNDER 55 points.

The key to pulling off the three-game season sweep lies in the play of quarterback Trevor Harris, who has reflected the up and down nature of this team. In last Friday’s win, he completed 24-of-32 passing attempts for 341 yards and one touchdown throw. Ottawa also got a big effort from William Powell and Dominique Davis running the ball. Powell added 87 yards rushing on 21 carries, while Davis scored three touchdowns on four rushing attempts.

With last Friday’s loss, Hamilton has dropped three of its last five games both SU and ATS. At 8-8 SU with a 7-8-1 record ATS, it has already clinched a playoff spot in the East with a crossover team from the West filling out the three spots in this division. The total has gone OVER in six of the Tiger-Cats’ last seven games with the other contest ending as a PUSH.

With Jeremiah Masoli under center at quarterback, Hamilton has been able to average 29.5 points per game as the second-highest scoring team in the CFL. Masoli is ranked second in the league in both passing yards(4,966) and passing touchdowns (28). He threw for 342 yards and three scores in last week’s loss, while completing 67.6 percent of his 34 passing attempts.

Head-to-Head Betting Trends

--Ottawa has a SU 4-1 edge in its last five road games against the Tiger-Cats and it has covered ATS in all five contests. The total has gone OVER in six of the last nine meetings overall.

Betting Prediction

I would think that Hamilton would return the favor this Saturday with a win at home both SU and ATS, especially with the East title still on the line. Ottawa controls the tie-breaker in this race, but anything could happen in the final week of the season.

The total stayed UNDER in the first meeting at Hamilton this season, but just like last Friday, I have it going OVER the current 54.5-point line in the third game of the season series.

Other Week 20 CFL Games

Friday, Oct. 26

Calgary Stampeders at Winnipeg Blue Bombers -3.5 Total Line: 53.5 (8:30 p.m.)
Calgary has been tough to bet on this season, but this is the first game it is actually getting points. The Stampeders will not lose to their third-straight division foe.

Saturday, Oct. 27

British Columbia Lions at Saskatchewan Roughriders -4 Total Line: 52 (7 p.m.)Saskatchewan’s motivation for this game could hinge on the result of Friday’s Calgary game as far as its chances to still win the West. Either way, I am taking the Lions and the points to cover.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Updated Playoff Scenarios: Week 20 @CFL https://t.co/xYrobx2WIV #CFL
— CFL News (@CFL_News) October 22, 2018
\n"}[/]

Sunday, Oct. 28

Toronto Argonauts at Montreal Alouettes -1 Total Line: 49.5 (1 p.m.)
The back-end of the other home-and-home series in the East this weekend is for last place in the division standings. I have Montreal keeping things interesting with the win SU and ATS the spread.
