Week 5 of the CFL regular season features an extended five-game schedule, and the reigning Grey Cup champion Ottawa Redblacks will be pulling double duty with Wednesday’s home game against Montreal followed by next Monday night’s at Toronto.

Every CFL team is in action as well in what should be a great week of football north of the boarder. I have found a pair of West Division matchups over the weekend that fit the bill for this week’s two-team parlay based on CFL betting lines at BetOnline.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers At BC Lions (-4.5, 56.5)

The Blue Bombers come into Friday night’s division clash at 2-1 both straight-up and against the spread following last week’s 33-25 victory against Toronto as 3-point home favorites. Quarterback Matt Nichols only completed 55.6 percent of his 36 passing attempts for 228 yards, but Winnipeg got a strong effort from its running game behind Andrew Harris with 81 yards and two scores on 17 carries. The Bombers’ defense has been a bit suspect in allowing 31.3 points per game thus far.

BC shook off a Week 1 loss to Edmonton as a 4-point home favorite with a trio of victories on the road in its last three games by a combined 35 points to improve to 3-1 both SU and ATS. The big news for Friday night is Travis Lulay taking over the reins at quarterback for an injured Jonathon Jennings. Lulay is coming off a huge performance last week against Hamilton after Jennings went down early in the first quarter. Lulay put the ball up 36 times and completed 80.6 percent of his passes for 436 yards and three touchdowns in the Lions’ 41-26 victory as 3.5-point road favorites.

  • The Blue Bombers have gone 7-0 ATS in their last seven games closing as a road underdog and the total has gone OVER in their last eight games on the road.
  • The Lions are 5-1 ATS in their last six games closing as favorites and the total has gone OVER in five of their last six games as favorites at home.
  • Head-to-head in this West Division tilt, Winnipeg has covered ATS in five of its last six road games against the Lions and the total has stayed UNDER in 11 of the last 15 meetings in BC.

The opening spread went from 8.5 points to 4.5 points in light of Jennings’ injury, which I see as a gift for a play on BC at home both SU and ATS.

Saskatchewan Roughriders At Calgary Stampeders (-10, 58)

The Roughriders are the only team in the West Division with a losing record this season at 1-2, but they should be ready to go on Saturday night coming off a bye. Kevin Glenn has played well as Saskatchewan’s new starting quarterback with 1,055 yards passing and seven touchdown throws. The Roughriders still have some holes to fill on the other side of the ball after allowing an average of 26.7 points per game in their first three contests.

Calgary entered this season as the clear favorite to win another West Division title after going 15-2-1 last season, but it is just the third-best team in the division through the first four weeks at 2-1-1 SU (1-3 record ATS). In last week’s stunning 30-23 loss to Montreal as 4-point road favorites, the Stampeders’ defense allowed two fourth-quarter scoring drives to blow a 20-16 lead. Bo Levi Mitchell did his part by throwing for 379 yards and one score in the losing effort.

  • The Roughriders have covered ATS in five of their last six games played on the road and the total has stayed UNDER in eight of their last 10 games following a SU win.
  • The Stampeders are 7-1 ATS in their last eight West Division games and the total has gone OVER in five of their last seven home games closing as favorites.
  • Calgary has a 5-1 edge ATS in its last six games against Saskatchewan while going a perfect 6-0 SU. The total stayed UNDER in both meetings last season.

I think both of these teams are going to come out running and gunning on Saturday in what should be a very entertaining game. I like Calgary SU, but covering the 10 points could be tough.
