Spanish top flight serves up right cracker this weekend between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. Find out what choice soccer picks we’re spotting before you hit up your bookie.

Atletico Madrid At Disadvantage
Atletico Madrid enter their home clash with Barcelona at the disadvantage, trading at +230 soccer odds to win outright. Barcelona, meanwhile, are the slight favorites at +130 and the draw is on offers of +220. Do the bookies have it right?

Atletico Madrid are off to a bright start in Primera Division behind a two-game winning streak that has them on six points, level with Barcelona, Eibar and Celta de Vigo atop the table. The interesting bit: Atletico are stuck in a three-way tie with the latter two on goal differential, while Barcelona are sat in fourth place.

Obviously, it’s not going to stay like this for long in Spain one assumes; the status quo to be re-established sooner rather than later with one of the three top dogs in Spain eventually riding roughshod over the rest of the field. Nevertheless, the upshot of the current landscape mainly is that the premium on the win in the upcoming clash between Atletico Madrid and the defending champions Barcelona couldn’t be greater.

The idea that Atletico or, for that matter Barcelona and Real Madrid (who are fifth in the table with four points) would continue ceding ground to that pair is outrageous. Perhaps offending to the sensibilities of diehard La Liga fans. Fact is it’s a real possibility for the time being.

Each side will be desperate, therefore, for the win in order to keep pace atop the table, but something is going to have to give. Or rather one of them will. Question is which side will it be?

On a side note: it’s worth mentioning that Celta de Vigo have what appears to be a winnable clash against promoted Las Palmas in round 3, while Eibar have a clash with struggling Malaga. Chances are that pair could come away winners at the weekend, which would see them potentially hold on to the top two spots (shocker!) in the table.

That must add to the pressure on Atletico and Barcelona respectively going into the weekend, all while looking ahead to Champions League match day 1 next week mind.

Atletico vs. Barcelona Head-to-Head
By the stats, the prognosis for Diego Simeone and his Atleti isn’t good. Atleti are riding a run of four straight losses to Barcelona, including two domestic league games and Copa Del Rey last season.

It’s not as if Atletico have had no success at all against Barcelona under Diego Simeone. They have but not since 2014, their best year under the temperamental manager. The last win Atleti enjoyed over Barcelona was in Champions League action back in April, 2014, when they stunned the Catalan giants 1-0 en route to a runner-up finish to Real Madrid in the final. Their ensuing clash in La Liga a month later resulted in a 1-1 draw at Camp Nou. All this coming during the season Atletico became the surprise domestic champions.

Atleti failed to channel that same form in 2014-2015 season, ceding the La Liga title to Barcelona all while finishing third in the table with a 23-9-6 mark and 78 points, a full 16 points behind the champions.

This season Atleti are looking sharp behind two wins that have seen them ship five goals and concede none. They beat Las Palmas 1-0 in the opening round and followed up with a 3-0 win over Sevilla.

Barcelona, meanwhile, have faced stiff opposition in both Athletic Club and Malaga, winning both games 1-0. Not their usual offensive-minded accounts but, auspiciously, still defensively sound.

Soccer Betting Verdict: Both sides have been solid on the defensive side of the ball, which lends itself nicely to draw bettors looking to pound the +220 soccer odds on a stalemate at the Vincente Calderon. For our money, Atletico strike a convincing pose with their offensive prowess together with home advantage. Although they are the odds makers’ underdogs at +230 to win outright, Diego Simeone and his lads must be tired of losing to Barcelona four on the trot. And with the Catalan giants’ offense rather tame in recent weeks, they could be there for the taking. Take Ateltico to win on your soccer picks at +230 soccer odds.
