Best Plays Of Day 2 & Free Picks For WTA Wimbledon

Dominic Thiem vs. Florian Mayer
Florian Mayer reaches this event after winning the biggest title of his career in Halle. The last years haven’t been easy for Mayer, with the German struggling with several physical issues. Despite Florian’s recent success in Halle his physical condition is no longer the same, with Mayer’s last victory on a Grand Slam event taking place in 2014 at the Australian Open. This will be Florian’s 10th career appearance on this event, with his best result achieved in 2004 and 2012 when he reached the quarterfinals.

Dominic Thiem’s dream season continues, with the Austrian breaking into the top 10 for the first time on his career. After reaching the semifinals of a Grand Slam event for the first time on his career, Thiem surprised everyone – even himself – by winning his first title on grass with a superb performance in Stuttgart. Before that event, Dominic had a terrible 2 – 6 record on grass; however, the Austrian appeared in Stuttgart with a very good mindset, which is crucial on such a tricky surface as grass.

This will be the second career meeting between these two players, with Mayer leading on h2h by 1 – 0.

Despite Mayer’s recent victory over Thiem in Halle, it’s important to mention that Dominic was completely exhausted and couldn’t perform at his best. This time things should be quite different, with Thiem in much better conditions while Florian should struggle to maintain a consistent level in a long match like this. Having said that, our suggestion for this match is for you to take advantage of Thiem’s tennis odds by placing a bet the Austrian to cover his spread.

Dmitry Tursunov vs. João Sousa
Dmitry Tursunov’s golden days are long gone with the former world no.36 currently outside top 250 and looking for his first Grand Slam victory in more than two years. Looking at the past two years, Tursunov only played five ATP events with just one victory earlier this year against Sam Groth in Acapulco. Despite not having an official ranking to enter the main draw, Tursunov secured a place in Wimbledon due to his protected ranking – a status that can be conceded for players who couldn’t compete for a minimum period of six months due to injury. Dmitry already used that status in Roland Garros, losing in the first round against Roberto Bautista Agut by 3 – 6 3 – 6 1 – 6.

João Sousa is still looking for his first triumph on grass in 2016 after losing his previous two matches on this surface – against Dominic Thiem in Halle and Dudi Sela in Nottingham. Despite those two losses, Sousa is a very good competitor on grass with his consistent and aggressive baseline game. This is Sousa’s third career appearance on Wimbledon’s main draw, with the Portuguese always losing on the first round. However, both matches were against Stan Wawrinka.

These two players will face for the third time on their careers, with each player winning one match.

If this was a best of three sets match, Tursunov might have some chances but in a best of five, it’s very hard to see him overcoming this opponent. Sousa should be just too solid for the Russian and for that reason, our recommendation is for you to add the Portuguese spread to your tennis picks as the best play for this match.
