High-flying Borussia Dortmund take on Bayer Leverkusen in Bundesliga action this weekend, marking match day 5. Check out our preview and soccer picks before hitting up your bookie.

Borussia Dortmund (4-0-0) Flying High
The Bundesliga season is only four matches deep, but Borussia Dortmund are already giving Pep Guardiola and Bayern Munich a run for their money at the top of the table. Behind a perfect 4-0-0 start – matched only by Bayern Munich in Germany’s top flight, incidentally – BVB have first place thanks to a better goal-differential. As it is, they have a +12 differential to Bayern’s +10 differential.

Of course, it’s early days yet. Borussia Dortmund are yet to be truly tested on the new campaign. That said, they did open against last season’s standouts Borussia M’gladbach, a clash widely accepted as a stern test for newly appointed manager Thomas Tuchel, who succeeded the much-loved Jurgen Klopp after a rather dizzying 2014-2015 season ended his seven-year rein in Dortmund.

Big shoes to fill? No problem. Tuchel led his Black and Yellows to a commanding 4-0 victory in his managerial debut for the club, all while coming through as the -138 home favorites on the soccer board.

Getting the first win of the season on opening day can be a real momentum boost. So it proved to be as BVB reeled off another three straight wins over Ingolstadt, Hertha BSC and Hannover 96. Most encouragingly, that brilliant form transcends several competitions, including Europa League as Borussia Dortmund are after a 2-1 win in Thursday’s round of second-tier European action.

Altogether, since July when preseason club friendly action got underway, BVB have recorded 17 wins and just one loss, a 2-1 hiccup against Bochum, a run of form that includes 14 straight wins, featuring 46 goals scored and just 11 conceded. If they can maintain this pace, their upcoming clash with Bayern Munich on October 4 is going to be the MUST-SEE game of the year, if not the season proper.

Bayer Leverkusen (2-0-2) Look To Bounce Back
For the interim, BVB loom large and formidable in Germany’s top flight. That’s pause for concern ahead of match day 5 for visiting Bayer Leverkusen, a side that isn’t enjoying the best of fortunes right now.

Bayer’s season got off the ground brightly with back-to-back wins over Hoffenheim and Hannover 96, but it has since nosedived with back-to-back losses to Bayern Munich and Darmstadt 98. They are sat 13th in the table with just six points, albeit five points clear of the drop zone.

Auspiciously, they returned into the win column with a 4-1 win over BATE in Europa League group play on Thursday. It remains to be seen whether they can build on that morale-boosting win at Signal-Iduna Park.

Soccer Betting Verdict:
If the soccer odds were any indication, BVB are most likely to win outright on Sunday. The best bit for soccer bettors looking to bankroll the hosts is that they are a tempting soccer pick at -163 soccer odds. Frankly, given their form, it’s somewhat surprising to have them trading at such people-friendly odds.

Past trends suggest a much closer affair, though. Not least a potential upset by Bayer Leverkusen – a soccer pick that is trading at whopping +400 soccer odds at bet365. Bayer Leverkusen haven’t lost to Borussia Dortmund in the last four meetings, winning two and settling on the draw in the other two meetings. What’s more, both wins came at Signal-Iduna Park.

Yet, going on current form it would be a long shot soccer pick to back Bayer as the +400 underdogs to mastermind the upset. Same goes for the draw, which is trading at +300 soccer odds. That doesn’t mean it’s improbable just unlikely. We’re buying what Tuchel’s BVB Is selling and shading the home win on our soccer picks.
