Just ahead of UFC241 Conor McGregor may have just landed in hot water again...

Twitter blew up today when a video of “The Notorious” Conor McGregor surfaced of him striking an elderly man in the face in an irish pub.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Fighter Conor McGregor is caught on a bar camera punching an elderly gentleman when the man apparently refuses a shot of whiskey offered to him.

This video should be shown to kids in every health class to explain the pitfalls of steroids, drinking and toxic masculinity. ;/a>
— Amee Vanderpool (@girlsreallyrule) August 15, 2019
"}[/]

McGregor appears to be attempting to pour a round of shots for the pub and the man refuses. Conor was likely attempting to share a round of his personal brand Proper 12 whiskey which he is well known for promoting everywhere he goes. Once the man refuses Conor’s drink it looks like words are exchanged between the two of them and Conor lashes out, striking the man in the face with his patented left. Props to the pub crawler though because he takes the shot in the face like a champ!

The video has had mixed reviews with fans where some Conor fan boys have immediately come to his defense assuming the man must have in some way deserved the punch to the face, but most people are condemning the actions and rightfully so. Just because you are a professional fighter does not give you free license to hit anybody you want and considering this is an elderly person that makes the assault even more appalling. Conor’s hands are registered deadly weapons and no matter what this individual said it does not give you the right to attack them.

The good news is this is the first sign of fighting action we have seen from Conor since October when he lost to the current lightweight champion Khabib via rear-naked choke. The bad news is you never know what a video like this will do for the return of the UFC’s biggest star. We have seen outside of the cage issues sideline other UFC stars in the past like Jon Jones. These kind of issues can drain years off of a fighter’s career and the world has been chomping at the bit to get Conor back in the cage. Since losing back to back fights against Mayweather and Khabib, McGregor appears to be content with his non-MMA ventures and doesn't seem interested in anything besides another crack at the UFC title. Add legal issues to the pile of things keeping Conor out of the cage and we may never actually see him back fighting the way we really want him to.

Conor has been offered fights such as Cowboy Cerrone, Justin Gathje, Anthony Pettis, and the list goes on but none of them have been agreed to. Recently, the rumor is that a rematch at 155 between Conor and Jose Aldo, who McGregor took the 145 pound belt from in 2015, is in the works but nothing has been made official. UFC President Dana White has long said that he doesn't know that Conor will ever return due to the money he made from the May Mac boxing/MMA cross over that set records. Its a lot harder to wake up hungry when you are sleeping in silk sheets and that seems to be the case with McGregor. He has no interest in any fight that might stop him from getting back to a title shot, but losing so dominantly to the lightweight champion and the long list of deserving contenders at 155 makes it a hard spot for him to jump right back in the deep end. Not to mention that every single fighter in the top 10 at 155 is a complete nightmare.

This weekend at UFC 241 Nate Diaz is facing Anthony Pettis and I would be willing to bet that the trilogy between Conor and Diaz would come to fruition if Diaz is able to get by the hard hitting Pettis. Conor would get the dollars that he is looking for in that fight as the rubber match between the two is one of the most anticipated fights the UFC could ever put together for fans and that might peak his interest. And you know that if Conor beats Diaz in the trilogy fight the UFC will shove him right into the title picture. After the fiasco of UFC 229 a rematch between Khabib and Conor would be an even bigger success financially speaking and the UFC will work to that end goal as much as possible, but they have to get Conor to play ball first.

Interesting Stats on Conor McGregor:

Record: 21 - 4

5.27 Significant Strikes Landed per Minute

70% Take Down Defense

Only 1 MMA fight in the last 2.5 years
