Brazil look to extend their winning streak to four in a row at the world finals when they take on Australia in the R16. Will the Brazilian juggernaut come through on their favourable soccer odds?

Brazil vs. Australia Head-to-Head
This marks the third meeting between the pair at the world finals. Brazil won both previous meetings, albeit each was a narrow win featuring a one-goal margin. Brazil beat Australia at the 2007 finals 3-2 and then 1-0 at the 2011 finals. Recently, the pair met in friendly action and split their meetings with Brazil winning 1-0 and Australia returning the favour with a 2-1 win.

Australia Playing Above Their Heads
The Australians surprised many soccer betting fans when they emerged in second place behind USA in the group of death. Few has the Aussies finishing quite so strongly in the competition. Although they opened with a 3-1 defeat to the USA, they overpowered Nigeria 2-0 in the second round and then held Sweden to a 1-1 draw to clinch second place. Overall, they've scored four goals and conceded four goals in the competition, albeit that differential is skewed by the three goals allowed against USA. It's worth noting that since the opening game, they've conceded just one goal.

Brazil Underscore Favourable Soccer Odds
Brazil emerge from group play with a perfect 3-0-0 record, matched only by defending champions Japan. That perfect run is punctuated by scoring four goals and conceding ZERO. They are the only side not to concede in group play.

Brazil are deserved favourites on the Women's World Cup betting board in this competition, with their flair, talent and experience, and star power with the likes of Marta. Overwhelmingly, the expectation across soccer betting markets is for Brazil to advance. But nobody is taking the Matildas lightly.

R16 Odds: Brazil vs. Australia
The R16 kicked off on Saturday with tourney faves Germany overpowering Sweden with a 4-1 win , and China PR holding the plucky Lionesses from Cameroon to a 1-0 score, effectively ending their Cinderella run into the knockouts.

If the soccer odds were any indication, Brazil, another big gun in the competition, should sail into the quarterfinals at the expense of Australia. Already two matches into the R16 and the favourites have punched at their weight class. Consider the Brazilians' campaign through the group stage went without a hitch, it would be a shocker if they stumbled against Australia.

As it is, Brazil are tipped as the -138 favourites while Australia are matched as the +375 underdogs. Brazil's soccer odds are quite low, which we like. Certainly, they could have been more favoured. Then again, that has a lot to do with the quality of the Aussies, who are dangerous floaters in this competition and no strangers to it either. On the flipside, that notion isn't done justice in their soccer odds. At +375 to win outright, they are the decided underdogs and long shots to pull off the upset.

If there were a measure of hope for the Aussies, it's that they've played the Brazilians close in their last four meetings, including winning their last friendly clash. Obviously, there's more on the line in this game than a friendly. It remains to be seen whether they can rise above the Brazilians on the biggest stage in the game.

Soccer Betting Verdict
It's hard to go against Marta and Company, especially when they are so valuably priced at -138. This is the time in the competition when the favourites are expected to separate from the contenders and pretenders. So we're backing the Brazilians with our soccer picks, but we won't be shocked if the Aussies spring a surprise either.
