Champions League football is virtually assured for Wolfsburg, but Gladbach are fighting for at least a season in the limelight. Lee Phelps looks at the betting for his free soccer pick.

Two of the Bundesliga’s best in 2015 go head to head this weekend with the Champions League football dream for both. Only Bayern Munich have picked up more points since the turn of the year than Borussia Monchengladbach and Wolfsburg (both have amassed 27 points).

The Foals are now unbeaten in nine Bundesliga games (W6, D3), currently the longest run in the league. Their last defeat was a 1-0 loss away to Schalke in early February.

They have also won each of their last seven home games, four without conceding and only one of their last 18 matches on home soil ended in defeat (3-1 to Frankfurt in November 2014).

With 54 points on the board after 29 games, Gladbach are enjoying their best campaign in 31 years. The Foals had 57 points at this stage in 1983/84 (converted to the 3-points-per-win system) and ended the season third, which is why their placed as soccer odds favorites for this match.

They have Bayer Leverkusen in their sights and that third spot again, with both locked on 52 points.

The Europa League dream is over for Wolfsburg, going from favourites to dumped out in one mad night losing 4-1 to Napoli. You have to wonder what the motivation is. They are seven points clear of Leverkusen and Gladbach in second and Bayern could win the title this weekend.

Obviously they are a very good side and are unbeaten in five games winning three and drawing two and have lost just one of their last 17 Bundesliga matches (1-0 in Augsburg).

They have a good record against their opponents too, Wolfsburg are unbeaten in their last four meetings with Gladbach, with three wins, while Borussia have won just two of the last 14 (D3, L9).

I’m not ignoring the fact that with 61 points, 63 goals scored and 31 goals conceded to their name, Wolfsburg are having their best ever season on all three fronts either, I just think this game may be one too many for them, with nothing to play for.

Soccer Picks
The home advantage and extra motivation for Gladbach makes me want to add them to my soccer picks, but I’m not discounting Wolfsburg completely. They have goals in them of course, as those stats prove, and they still scored two in Naples, when they were losing 6-1 on aggregate.

Free Soccer Picks: Borussia Monchengladbach win and over 2.5 goals 3.4 (12/5)
