William Hill's Lee Phelps looks at the Bundesliga match between the Borussias, with plenty at stake for Gladbach. He has look at the odds and has a free betting pick.

Once upon a time a well-known football presenter referred to this as the Borussia derby! Yes it’s Monchengladbach vs Dortmund. Anyone who suggested the former would be 17 points and seven places about the latter pre-season is lying.

Historically speaking, this fixture is almost completely even in the Bundesliga: The teams have met 85 times in the top flight with Dortmund winning 29 times, Monchengladbach 28 and the remaining 28 games ending in a draw.

Monchengladbach
The home team will certainly be hoping for more attacks than the reverse fixture, when BVB had 21 shots compared to Gladbach’s one, although it only ended in 1-0 defeat and was their first of the season in what was their 19th competitive game.

They have a good recent record in this match at home and have only lost one of their last eight matches away, plus they are unbeaten in seven games (W5, D2), which is currently the longest run in the league, collecting 23 points during the second half of the season – the joint most with Wolfsburg.

They have won each of their last six league home matches, keeping clean sheets in the last four, but do go into this on a bit of a downer having been knocked out of the Cup. That was a big disappointment having only beaten Bayern in Munich a week earlier.

Dortmund
BVB are unbeaten in their last five away games, collecting 11 of a possible 15 points (W3, D2) and are up to 10th and have a cup semi-final against Bayern to come. That could rescue what has been a disastrous campaign.

Their league form seemed to suffer, while their Champions League group form excelled and then when their league form picked up, the European side suffered.

Dortmund have failed to score in 11 BL matches this season – never before in their BL history have they failed to find the back of the net in as many of their first 27 games and this week they come up against one of the tightest defences. Odds makers have clearly overvalued Dortmund on the Bundesliga Odds board for this fixture.

Soccer pick
I’m going for a good old fashioned soccer pick here, I honestly don’t see why Dortmund are the favourites, given Gladbach’s impressive form since the winter break, including that win at Bayern.
