FC Augsburg
FC Augsburg (3-0-6 Road, 5 GF-10 GA, host Hoffenheim Sunday) has somehow managed to play 17 matches without having a Draw, so, for those about to rock, we salute you. And for those who like to place Soccer Picks on the Draws, well, the Fuggerstädter—name after the famous Fugger family of Augsburg, quite naturally—are overdue for like five straight now, right? Only God’s hairdresser knows for sure. Augsburg and manager Markus Weinzierl strangely have the same exact focus as Dortmund heading into this Week 19 clash—avoiding relegation. Augsburg’s leading scorer is actually 31-year-old Dutch Right Back Paul Verhaegh (6 goals, +700), so if you don’t mind backing an old defender to score a goal at 7/1 odds against a stingy Dortmund team at Westfalenstadion, then have at it. That’s part of the fun of betting. Those unexpected longshots. Argentine striker Raúl Bobadilla (4 goals, +350), Tobias Werner (5 goals, +450), striker Tim Matavž (2 goals, +400), Brazilian Caiuby (Francisco da Silva; +400), Shawn Parker (+400) and Halil Altintop (3 goals +400) will look to get Fuggerstädter on the scoreboard, but with Dortmund having so much trouble offensively, its defense has had to be that much better to keep Die Borussen from being in even a worse position than it is currently in. On Sunday, Augsburg defeated TSG Hoffenheim at home in blizzard-like conditions, 3-1 as Werner and Altintop had goals for the winners.

Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund (3-2-3 Home, 9 GF-9 GA) and manager Jürgen Klopp find themselves in one of the strangest realities in sports right now—in last place in Germany’s Bundesliga, yet still playing in the UEFA Champions League, and, theoretically, in contention for a European title (+3300, 33/1 BetVictor). On Saturday at 3rd-place Bayer Leverkusen, Dortmund fought gallantly for a 0-0 draw and a now precious 1 point as attacking midfielder extraordinaire Marco Reus (3 goals, +130 Anytime Goalscorer, bet365) returned to the fold in the first game after the Winter Break. Die Borussen could have very well lost this match, but a wonderful header off the Dortmund goal-line in the first half by the dependable Mats Hummels (+600) saved the day for Kloppo & Co. who will really need the W and the 3 points here for a number of reasons. And that means the Black and Yellows will have to find a way to score a goal or two. But Augsburg only allows a little more than a goal a game (1.22), so players like new strikers Ciro Immobile (3 goals, +120) and Adrián Ramos (3 goals, +130) really need to wake up here at home at Westfalenstadion and expect one of the two players to score in this fixture, probably Immobile.

BvB, whose 10 losses are the most in Fußball-Bundesliga, will also need everyone else to play and click a little bit better, and this team’s roster is still absolutely loaded with players like Reus, Hummels, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (5 goals, +120), winger Jakub Blaszczykowski (+187), Kevin Großkreutz, Kevin Kampl (+300), Nuri Sahin, Shinji Kagawa, Ilkay Gündogan (+275) and goalkeeper Mitchell Langerak. Dortmund will rebound.

Best Betting Approaches and Trends
When these two played in Week 2 at Augsburg, Dortmund registered one if its 4 wins, 3-2, while in this fixture last season at Signal Iduna Park ended up in a 2-2 draw. These teams don’t have a deep body of work and have only played 7 times overall, with Augsburg still looking for its first win over Borussia Dortmund. All 7 games have been in Fußball-Bundesliga play and Dortmund is 5-2-0 (20 GF-7 GA) overall in them and 2-1-0 (10 GF-4 GA) against the Fuggerstädter here at home in Dortmund. Expect lock down defense and a couple of precious, confidence-building goals for the homeboys in this one in another typically low-scoring affair as the Black and Yellows look to get out of their funk and start a climb from the Bundesliga basement to some safety in the middle of the table.
